HOW TO RAISE PH OF YOUR PONDWATER THAT IS TOO ACIDIC WITH BAKING SODA

Pour Water Into Measuring Cup

Pour water into a 1-cup measuring cup. You may want to test the pH of the water with a pH meter to confirm that the pH of it.

Do not use litmus papers or Test Strip for this experiment, as they only tell you whether a substance is acidic, alkaline or neutral, and don't provide the exact pH number level.

Add Baking Soda to Water

Add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water and mix well with a whisk or spoon until the baking soda dissolves completely.

Test pH With pH Meter

Test the pH level again to check that it has increased. If you want to raise the pH level further, add more baking soda. Continue doing so, testing each time, until you achieve the desired pH level for fish farming. Optimum pH for Fish Farming is Between 6.5 - 7.5. Any water ph other than these range is risky. That's why a large number of fish will die without notice.

I thought water is naturally alkaline?

Also, at pH of 7, isn't it going to be neutral? Is that what ( neutral) we should aim for for the fish pond? 6.5 is still on the acidic side.

So which is the best? Neutral or alkaline.
