Ghana practiced Regionalism and still practices it today. Do you know why? Because just like Ironsi, the military leaders of Ghana never abolished the regions and started creating states, like Gowon did

Did Ironsi take away some powers from the Regions? Of course he did, it is military rule, it was bound to happen.

Did Ironsi destroy Regionalism? He did not because had Gowon left the 4 Regions of the time with their resource control and the revenue sharing formular agreed at independence, like Ironsi left it, we would still be practising Regionalism like Ghana

Once Gowon embarked on state creation, Regionalism was dead
You're trying hard to play "lawyer" with this

Ironsi destroyed it simple

I saw a thread trying to revise history
https://www.nairaland.com/6534250/aguiyi-ironsi-did-not-dissolve-regionalism/
that is a malicious attempt
to revise history and we the reasonable Nairalanders won't take such

Decree Number 34 of May 24, 1966, promulgated by Ironsi caused massive unrest in the Northern part of the country as the Northerners had gone against delimiting of regional powers as far back as 1959.
The decree made the centre strong, thereby abolishing the powers granted to the regions. In June 1966, Ironsi began a tour of the country (never to return to Lagos) and met with the Northern elite, assuring them of a united Nigeria. thehistoryville.com/

But, Ironsi was in a hurry to make an impression. In his May broadcast, he declared: “Nigeria shall on the 24th May, 1966 cease to be a federation and shall accordingly as from that day be a republic by the name of the Republic of Nigeria, consisting of the whole territory, which immediately before that day was comprised in a federation.” As federalism was abolished, the regions ceased to exist. From their ashes sprang up a group of territorial areas called provinces. Each region became a group of provinces, with a National Military Government at the centre. The late Head of State had also proposed a new economic plan, but it never saw the light of day....thenationonlineng.com

According to Ndayo Uko, the Decree no.2 was to serve "as a kind gesture to the press" to safeguard himself when he went on later to promulgate the Defamatory and Offensive Decree No.44 of 1966 which made it an "offense to display or pass on pictorial representation, sing songs, or play instruments the words of which are likely to provoke any section of the country." He also as per the proposals of a single man committee passed the controversial Unification Decree No. 34 aimed to unify Nigeria into a unitary state..... wikipedia.com

Ironsi abolished regionalism yet appointed regional military governors. Yoruba peeps have bent of using this crap to justify their lining Fulani, Hausa and Kanuri to prosecute a war against Ndigbo and Biafrans. Decree #34 was for the unification of civil servants in Nigeria. The Emirs taught it took away the power of native authority from them and organized unrest in northern region.

You are now becoming annoying with this your stupid senseless mantra "Ironsi abolished regionalism yet appointed regional military governors" . Appointing regional governors itself is abolishion of regionalism. Who gave Ironsi powers to appoint regional governors? It means the regions were no longer autonomous or part of a federation but a unitary state under the rule of one man.

Is it that you truly don't understand or just trying to be a troll?

And in Aburi Igbos established confederation, but the Yorubas, Hausas, Fulanis and the rest of Nigeria rejected it and opted for the current unitary system that is currently being practiced
Let me get this straight:

1. Igbo insisted on “ONE NIGERIA”.

2. Igbo planned a coup.

3. Igbo destroy the Nigerian Democracy by murdering every top non-igbo politician or Military Officer.

4. Igbo changed the Nigerian system of Govt.

5. Igbo insist on a different system of Govt in Aburi.

6. Igbo start Nigerian Civil war by invading Midwest and committing genocide in the area.

7. Igbos lose War.

8. Igbos start crying to the world that they need power back and insist the Presidency MUST be handed to them on a silver-platter.
