Local hunters kill 4th elephant in 2 years in Ogun state

Local hunters in Ogun state have shown their prowess in hunting as it has been reported that this is the 4th elephant killed in 2 years in Ogun state.

What seems like good news to the local hunters isn’t exactly good news to the Elephant Protection Initiative. As they have condemned the illegal killings of animals in the forest.

It was reported by the Elephant Protection Initiative that this is the fourth elephant reportedly killed in two years in Ogun state.

Sharing photos of the animal killed near Omo forest, they wrote;

“Sad. Near Omo Forest, Ogun, not far from Lagos, 4th elephant illegally shot dead in 2 yrs. #Nigeria’s few elephants – c400- fast disappearing. (Elephant shot by local hunter- those in pic not responsible)”

So in a country where majority of ppl in the rural areas are impoverished and have to resort to hunting and farming to eat
A country where the animals in the zoos look beta off dead and where the country has no wildlife conservation agency, U ask why why??
What should the hunters have done? Escort the animal back into the forests? If they had captured it alive what would they have done with it? Take it to a zoo? How?

If the government doesn't secure that forest and ban hunters from killing the elephants, it's gonna keep happening.

The average hunter always celebrates a large kill like that. The tusks, the meat, everything about that elephant is money to them, so conservationists must understand that these men are just trying to make a living too, don't blame them.

A state like lagos will take good care of the elephants, I think Lagos state should have a standard central city zoo where all this animals can be protected.
