Authorities of the University of Jos, have directed the closure of all its students’ hostels over security threats to the school.

The decision comes as incidences of abductions and killing of students of tertiary institutions became rife in neighbouring northern states like Kaduna and Benue.

Abdullahi Abdullahi, Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications of the university disclosed this in a statement early on Saturday in Jos, adding that the hostels would remain closed until further notice.

According to Mr Abdullahi, the decision followed an emergency meeting between management of the university and other stakeholders, including heads of security agencies in the state, the chief security officer of the institution, students representatives and others, held on Friday, April 30.

The official said that the outcome of the meeting indicated that the university has become a soft target for insecurity, hence the decision for the students to vacate the hostels.

“The meeting deliberated on a security report regarding threats to the university staff, students and properties. As a result of this, soft targets like the hostels are in great danger.

“In the light of this development, the hostels are to be closed with immediate effect. Students and other members of the university community are to note and strictly comply with this directive.

“This is in the interest of the safety of students until all security measures have been perfected to protect the campuses as well as the hostels,” he said.

The deputy registrar, however, said that the ongoing examinations would continue unhindered.

He called on students and all members of the university community to be security conscious and report any suspicious movements within the university to the security agencies for prompt response.

The reason is below

TRACES OF BOKO HARAM IN PLATEAU WITH SYSTEMATIC PLANNED ABDUCTION AND ATTACKS
another round of systematic planned abduction and attacks have been credited to a group of Fulani collaborating with new stations of Boko Haram in Plateau State and Kaduna axis in a recent mapped out plans to continue carrying out hostilities on certain facilities of both Government and private establishment.

According to sources, the Boko Haram sect has its elements in Jingir of Bassa LGA, Forest area of Sopp/Hawan Kibo of Riyom, mountainous areas in Jos East of Plateau State and Kadarko of Kaduna State. Some other locations are, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi and Jos North while meticulous findings to identify other places is in progress.

While villages and communities in Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos South, Bassa and Jos North are to be on a serious watch, Churches and Christian clergymen are admonished to adopt extra vigilance and caution during Church service and their movements as the case may be as execution would be carried on any abducted clergyman. Prayers are to be observed without ceasing.

There are specific facilities mentioned for such abduction which would include,
a. Buken Academy located in Du, Jos South LGA.
b. ECWA Secondary School Miango in Bassa LGA.
c. Government Secondary School Jingir.
d. COCIN Church Bukuru, Gyel.
e. St. Jarlath's Catholic Church, Bukuru Gyel
f. First Baptist Church Bukuru Gyel,
g. Dalo Memorial School Foron in Barkin Ladi and other schools located at outskirt of town/communities.

The operation would also be extended against certain personalities who are-
- Saf Butura of Bokkos
- Hon Timothy Dantong
- The Gbong Gwom Jos.
- Ho. Sarah Reng Ochekpe.
- Barr. Dalyop Solomon.
- Denominational Heads in Plateau State, etc.

This arrangement emerged as an upshot of meetings Chaired by a famous Fulani leader called, Ardo Mamud Adams of Riyom- so-called Mahanga as held in different times and places, (Fass-Tafawa in Riyom, Tenti of Bokkos, Kachako in Kano, Ningi in Bauchi, Falgore of Kaduna and other meeting internally organized by the Fulani leader with other kinsmen-Nuhu Adam-Madaki of Mahanga, (elder brother of Ardo Mamud), Usman Yakubu (driver of Ardo Mamud Adams), Suleiman Manu of Daffo in Bokkos LGA, Rabiu Ibrahim of Nghar-Gashish District of Barkin Ladi, Wada Yamusa of Magama, Ahijo Isau who had settled in K-Vom but now living in Toro of Bauchi,
Alhassan Yakubu based in Kafanchan, Musa Ibrahim of Samunaka,
Alh. Mato and Buhari all of Shendam and other notorious Fulanis who attended the above meetings.

Let the people of Jos East, Jingir, Mista Ali, Bassa, Bokkos, Riyom, Jos South, Jos North and Barkin Ladi be on 24hrs watch. Same should apply to Southern Kaduna villages and communities. Likewise, churches should resume the use of detectives, ensure barring of vehicles passing close to Church premises.
*```_Take this information very serious and forward same to all, especially security agents until those listed in this round of systematic planned abduction and attacks are arrested or invited for questioning.*_```
