Disfiguring the tyres and reducing their qualities and subsequently making them substandard and unsafe for use is very bad of importers and should be discouraged. However, our government should make the importation of tyres easy, especially brand new tyres so that the landing cost won't be too much! The duties paid on these basic things are just crazily high when we can't even manufacture them properly here...forget all the Anammco and dunlops manufacturing because they are still importing everything! Tokunbo tyres are useless and usually of bad quality, now we have to buy brand new tyres at cutthroat price because of custom duties and the stupid CBN policies on dollars which are only favorable to some and killing others!

The worst part is that they will still sell the tyres themselves after destroying a few for the records undecided
You see, statutory fees are okay most times but there are a lot of unscrupulous insertions that are frustrating Nigerians because of personal gain of the corrupt customs officers and agents. Same thing is been done on fuel and every other products.

Yes, they are. My worry is just the fees paid under the desk here and there, plus the exchange rate making it difficult for the poor man to live his life jejely.

More of this will continue to happen until the country that grows rubber tresses start manufacturing what they need. Instead of exporting raw material only to import the finished product at a higher cost.

U didn't ask, where are Dunlop and Michelin that used to produce tires in nigeria?

Only way out of this mess is local production and our bereft governments from time immemorial have done too little to stimulate the economy towards this.

How much is the cost of a new tire and how many individuals can afford it?

Aside companies, Government maintain fleets and other wealth individuals, who are the people buying new tyres?.

Vampires, imagine the number of death it would have resulted.

They're brand new tyres. Just that they stuffed them inside one another. It's a bad practice but very common in Nigeria with new and used tyres.

Teejay13:
Nigerian's with buying of cheap things are like five and six that can not be separated.
I believe even the seized tyres will still be sold within Nigeria.
Is our custom.

It has to do with the way it was handled to evade paying duties.

embarassed embarassed Emmanuel Ogbagu, if it had been Salami, Abubakar or Nasiru nothing would have happened, as a matter of fact they would have congratulated them and taken photographs with them. Perhaps Dangote wants to venture into the tyre business and he wants to monopolise the sector as well, one Naijeria in its finest.

SON, the most useless organization in the world. They are so useless that iyiu hear people saying, fairly used imported things are better than the new ones and it's true as I have come to find out.

What exactly is your problem?!

If it was a northerner, you would all be shouting "friendly match" "family matter" and all sorts of rubbish.

Moreover, we all know the experts in importing inferior materials are usually Igbo. No surprise that Vice-president wannabe, Obi, was saying he can get the vaccine for a fraction of the price.

Lemme just stop talking.

This is a country that had Michelin producing tyres in Port Harcourt. They left for this same incompetence in the management of the economy.

Prolly, this one's didn't settle the OGA @ D top handsomely.

SON has been dead in Nigeria since inception. So is nafdac since the death of Dora (MHS R.i.P)

One of the reasons Nigeria remains mired in underdevelopment is the mindset of its general population....smh

mumu, stay and be destroying people's goods with rubbish reasons. u are inside Nigeria where every food processing firm is reducing their quantity and quality but increasing their prices, what have u done. but staging ur self in a place where u can get so much bribe is what u do. Every thing we were enjoying in this country before it no more, the names are there but the neither the quality, quantity nor price is there. in a country where a third class degree holder is interviewing a first class graduate reading every word of the questions he ask direct from the book what do u expect. I don't blame u, na Desmond Elliot cause am

inserting a smaller tire into a bigger ones does not affect the integrity, it saves cost. Those tires are made of thread. However turning cargo(plier) tires, raw flats tires into figure 8 and heaping others on it may affect the integrity. The son(standard organisation of Nigerian) is confiscating those tires because that man doesn't have there approval and hands has not been greased. Used tires(contraband) are what is usually smuggled into the country.

Very warped thinking.

In all your racial diatribe you could not spare a second to think of the consequences to an unsuspecting user of such products....which could even be you ...months or years down the line.

Better wake up and detach right and wrong from sentiment.
