CBN Worries Over Low Participation Of South East In Its Intervention Programmes by Ctorch: 12:29pm On May 05, 2021
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has decried the low participation of the South-East in its economic intervention policies and programmes.

The acting director, Corporate Communications Department of the bank, Mr Osita Nwanisobi, disclosed this yesterday during the CBN Fair in Enugu.

Nwanisobi said that the CBN intervention programmes were meant to create jobs, engender financial inclusion and make the people have access to finance.

He said Nigerians need to leverage the intervention programmes of the apex bank for a better living at a time when inflation was spiking and prices of food items souring.

Nwanisobi said the aims of the CBN intervention in the real economy were to create jobs, bring down food prices, financially include the excluded and engender inclusive growth.

“This CBN Fair enables us to create awareness of all the policies and interventions of the bank and to talk to our people on how they can leverage the programmes.

“We noticed that there seems to be lethargy in terms of people from the zone embracing the CBN interventions.

“There is also the need for the state governments to leverage the Anchor Borrowers Programme to improve the lives of the people,”
he said.

Nwanisobi said that the apex bank in its bid to engender inclusiveness started its Commodity Development Initiative with 10 commodities “but now, we are at about 22 commodities.”

“In choosing the commodities we intervene in, we look at the possible impacts and those that will help us to create quick wins. We also intervene in areas where we have comparative advantage and not just for local production but for export also,” he noted.

He said that the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, was very passionate about the 37 interventions of the apex bank, adding that the South-East could do much better in accessing them.

In a goodwill message, the Enugu State commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Martins Idu, appealed to the CBN to domesticate some of its intervention programmes to enable more people to participate.

Similar programs in the past were all littered with bottlenecks for people from the South East. We read about the Jonathan's era scholarship program, which this very regime had to tear apart because they felt it favored folks from this area, even when it was obvious that merit was the yardstick.

Such realities have created a great deal of disenchantment and disconnect.. Folks feel that no matter how hard they try, the system will always be rigged against them. You might even loose money through all sorts of charges without any guarantee of accessing the funds. It's the end really. No single belief in the State left..

Maybe you cbn need to work on regaining their confidence. Because I don't think any normal person will reject a gesture that will favour him

See them forming that South East is not participating as if they will answer anyone from southeast if they apply.

Nothing is as good as facing reality. The southeasterners having realized that the Nigeria does not favour them, they stopped giving a damn about the zoo.

That's why they're not wasting their time dropping applications in what they know will be given to Fulanis not on merit.

Nigeria that has refused to work by merit will continue to sink down

Rubbish, when you are distributing forms for agric intervention, raw materials intervention etc, did you send any forms to the east. While northerners go to cbn regional office to get forms you direct folks from the south east to go to abuja. While others collect intervention funds with no collateral, you demand collateral from the east

I applied for covid-19 loan last year and this year, same with my mom. Yet no approval.

I have been interviewed last year for agsmeis loan, no approval.

I applied for two of brothers, 1 sister in law for covid-19 loan this year, none have been approved.

If there is low participation, then it should translate to high approval for those that applied. But that's not the case.

There was once a country called Nigeria, it has gone to rot now.

The accounting rigors and other financial requirements by CBN before release of funds is a discouragement for many Igbos that are mostly illiterate traders

How many of those illiterate traders that dots the landscape of South East can provide 5 years financial statements and 5 years bankable feasibly study?

Funny enough those illiterates that are littered in the landscape of the Igbo land are more lettered and intelligent than you. Most have accumulated more degrees than you, but choose to face their business. Let me not generalise about your tribe, that will demote me to your level.

Your opinion, but doesn’t negate what I wrote.

You think getting CBN funding is like walking into your local money lender shop?

When you have nothing intelligent to counter with, you resort to the usual escape route, tribalism

We all need help one way or the other in this life

Because of your stupid bottlenecks.Boi is the worst or is it the one you'll borrow for farming and fulani herdsmen will harvest it for you.How do you pay back?

Give grants or soft loans without collateral but Se must present collateral.
