THE President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, has faulted calls for restructuring by Southern governors.

He said elected leaders ought not to champion such calls but rather concentrate on working hard to first restructure their states before asking the Federal Government to do so.

Lawan, said this in an interview with State House correspondents, in Abuja, on Thursday, after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa.

He said, “I believe that, as leaders, especially those of us who are elected into office should not be at the forefront of calling for this kind of thing (restructuring).

“Because, even if you are a governor, you are supposed to be working hard in your state to ensure that this restructuring you are calling for at the federal level, you have done it in your state as well.

“What you may accuse the Federal Government of, whatever it is, you may also be accused of the same thing in your state.

“So, we are supposed to ensure that we have a complete and total way of ensuring that our systems at the federal, state and even local government levels work for the people.

We must allow people to participate in governance so that whoever feels he has something to offer to make Nigeria better does so freely without any let or hindrance.”

The Senate president further said, “The President is reaching out to all the stakeholders. And I believe that as leaders, particularly those of us who were elected at all levels of government, we should avoid partisanship.

“We should avoid regionalism. We are all leaders and we are in this together.

“The solutions to our challenges must come from us regardless of what level of government we are.

“Whether at the federal, state or the local government level.

“I believe that Nigeria is going to come out of these challenges stronger.” He also called for support for the federal government.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, also called for a national spirit of oneness, saying that “If truth be told, we all have equal shares in the blame for what’s happening today.

Whatever challenges we have, we must all come together to make sure that we resolve these issues we’re facing.”

How these 'leaders from the north' reason most times and their utterances at all times always confirms their insincerity. Why are they afraid of restructuring. You call them 'LEADERS' and they have come to tell you the desires of those they are leading yet you don't want to accept their position. When the president and the presidency are busy appointing only those from their tribe and religion' what did you and your likes say. Now that the southern leaders has been woken up from their slumber by no other person but the very intelligent MNK, you are now advising them on what to do. I know the remaining days of this month will expose more of the northerners intent and purposes for this committee of many nations called Nigeria.

We won't. Enough of your deceit and use of Southerners to decimate the south.
The scales are off our eyes for good and we clearly are seeing no meaningful future continuing this useless journey with you vain and good for nothing lot.
We've taken stock and discovered the south could have been in year 2050 by now, but with you by our side, we discovered we went back to year 1702. Arguing back and forth about grazing land like we all still live in caves.

Rubber stamp zombie.

You should also first restructure your bogus salaries.

These msn lawan always Sound foolish, senseless and stupid.

For crying out loud, the southrrn governors took justifiable steps with their resolutions against the current crises bedevilling nigeria.

What have the fat sitting duck ever done as a leader of the senate where the restructuring should begin in the first place ?

Zombie lawan you have no moral justification to advice the governors where to start with or where not to start with restructuring.

Stay on your fat and rubber stamp lane and stop sounding brain dead.

Terrorist.

To be honest, the South has nothing in common with the North.
I wonder how these two regions survived as one country for more than half a century undecided

God bless you Senator Lawan!
Most of these Southern states governors are being hypocritical, especially those oil producing southern states robbing oil producing communities of the payment meant for direct interventions in their communities.

Cross Rivers State went through hell to get a substantive Chief Judge and Oyo state governor who once sacked all elected Chairmen of 33 LGAs in one fell swoop at the stroke of a pen being among those Southern states governors calling for restructuring is an insult !

Why on earth will Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Delta states be leading in unemployment rate in the country despite all the billions they recieve as oil derivation funds? Is that wastage of resources caused by restructuring at the federal government level too.

Most of these states still run governance only from their state capitals and focus most of the development on the capitals leaving out other places. It happened during the tenure of HE Ibikunle Amosun who focused only on Abeokuta and literally left the other parts of Ogun state!

These governors can't even stand the LGAs yet they want to bully FG. They should embrace restructuring FIRST and as a matter of fact, should show first that they can restructure.

All other parts of the same state need development and there should be strong laws in place to compel even development at state levels . Governors should build secretariats in each of the Senate district and physically work shifts and rotate their offices quarterly among each of the 3 senatorial districts.

In Lagos, the governor work shifts between Marina on the Island and Alausa in Ikeja and I think he should have another office in Badagry to make it 3 . God bless Nigeria.

He is saying shit for saying "The solutions to our challenges must come from us regardless of what level of government we are"?

He is spilling shit for saying "those of us who were elected at all levels of government, we should avoid partisanship and focus to make our immediate surroundings a better place"

Imagine what our senate president is saying.

What this means is that his mind is already closed up as far as restructuring is concerned.

This is somebody who is supposed to be educated, a lawyer. He pretends to be a moderate and cosmopolitan northerner but they are all pretentious acts to deceive the South.

Thank God the South is uniting; and that’s why they are shitting in their pants.

So because southern politicians are “corrupt”therefore they should fold their hands and watch marauding Fulani herdsmen exterminate aboriginal southerners so that the Fulanis will claim the land and start sharing the derivation between themselves?

I can see how the life of Zamfara people that has been mining their gold by themselves has all turned eldorado.

And talking about sacking LG chairmen, don’t forget that governor Masari of Katsina also sacked LG chairmen that was restored by the Supreme Court.

Is he not correct about state enforcing restructuring from their respective state. I think this is a valid quest considering how state governments refused to allow local govt run properly in Nigeria.

I remember buhari working hard to pay LG directly to them with the governors revolting but they expect the president to heed their own submission anytime they want. This does not negate the fact that Buhari is a failure in every way just so we are clear.

This rubber stamp Human being thinks highly of himself.
All these for just one meeting by southern governors, this shows that they are afraid of southern Nigerians unity and this their divide and rule tactics are beginning to fade.
How can a race be so evil minded? This also shows that the restructuring they are talking about will never see the light of the day.

Anyone that speaks against this Southern Governors resolve is either a slave or has vested interest in the herdsmen menace.
