TENSION As Northern Elders Write Southern Governors Over Ban On Open Grazing In The South, Issue Strong Warning

The Northern Elders Forum, or NEF, advised the Southern Governors to be cautious in their decisions and statements on Wednesday.

Dr. Hakeem Baba- Ahmed, a spokesman for the NEF, confirmed this in the context of the governors' 10- point decisions reached after a meeting in Asaba.


Baba- Ahmed, who acknowledged that the country was going through difficult times, reiterated the call for the rights of Northerners in the South to be protected in some way.

" The meeting and its resolutions are unquestionably significant developments in the light of our current national situation.

" Our Forum prefers to investigate such developments with the seriousness they merit and to make its positions known.


" At this point, we must emphasize that all leaders must show extreme caution in their decisions and statements.

" It' s tempting to cater to the crowd, but leaders set the tone and pace. They do not adhere to the rules.

" We should also reiterate our call for representatives of Northern communities living in the South, like Fulani, to have their legal rights protected.


" These are difficult times. We hope the President will carefully consider the implications of this meeting' s decisions and react appropriately, " he said in an interview with Vanguard.

This has come as a reaction to the decision of the southern governors to ban open grazing in the whole of the south, so as to protect the south and the people of the south from killer herders who are going about carrying out murder activities on farmers, communities, and also destroying farms.


The south senators have also reacted to the decision made by the southern governors, and they have given them their support, pointing out that the protection of their people is principal, and that they' ll make sure it is passed at the legislative level.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government is yet to respond to the decision of the Southern Governors.

They are mad.. They can't do nada... They are running scared seeing the southern governors now united over a common cause
