HISTORY AND SCIENCE

Most people know the first man to step on the moon; Neil Armstrong. And you most likely know it too. But you probably do not know who the second man was.

Such is life, isn't it? People hardly pay as much attention to the person who comes second or even below that. But if you ever wondered who the second was, let us help you out.

His name is Buzz Aldrin.

Buzz Aldrin (still alive) is a former astronaut, engineer and fighter pilot who was born on the 20th of January, 1930 (91 years old). Aldrin made three spacewalks as pilot of the 1966 Gemini 12 mission, and as the lunar module pilot on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission, he and mission commander Neil Armstrong were the first two people to land on the Moon. Following the deaths of Armstrong in 2012 and Michael Collins in 2021, Aldrin is now the last surviving crew member of Apollo 11.

He was on the same 'Apollo 11' mission (July 1969) which saw the spaceflight that first landed humans on the moon and he flew in the same spacecraft as Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon.

Buzz Aldrin reportedly stepped on the moon 19 minutes after Armstrong did, making him the second man to step and walk on the moon.
