The semi finals of 17th edition of the
CAF Orange African Youth
Championship will be played on
Thursday 28 at the Dobsonville
stadium in Johannesburg.
The two deciding fixtures for a place
in the final are set for the same day
with Mali meeting Nigeria at 12h00
and Egypt clashing with Cameroon
in a later encounter at 15h30.
The opening fixture pitches another
West African derby between Group
A winner, the Eaglets of Mali and
group B second seed, the Flying
Eagles of Nigeria.
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria who
won the last group B ticket will be
clashing with their West African
rivals in a bid to decide who obtains
the first ticket for the AYC’s
prestigious trophy.
At this stage and considering the
group phase performance, both
teams are tipped to be equal to each
other despite Mali winning their
group.
Playing a similar game and with the
same ambitions at hand, a physical
and tactical encounter is expected as
both teams slug it out a ticket into
the final.
Mali ’s excellent displays, both from
tactical and physical perspective, has
yielded dividend with a place in the
World cup.
Certainly, they will be playing
against another physical and tactical
Nigerian team determined to achieve
a good results as expressed by
Danjuma Dami of the Flying Eagles.

Wish them the very best. As long as they don't make over-head kicks in 18yrd box, they should be in the final

– Welcome to our voverage of the first semifinal of the 2011 African Youth Championships between Mali and Nigeria.

– The game is played at the Dobsonville Stadium in South Africa's Soweto, with the winner set to meet either Cameroon or Egypt in the final. Those two sides play later in the day.

– All four semifinalsts have already qualified for the 2011 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, so all that is left now is to decide who will take the continental crown off Ghana.

– Starting lineup Mali: Sy, malle, Konate, M. Coulibaly, Diarra, Toure, Sylla, Kone, A. Coulibaly, Diallo, Traore.

– Starting lineup Nigeria: Paul, Suswan, Anyanwu, Arokoyo, Ogungbe, Daniel, Ajagun, Osuchukwu, Azeez, Kayode, Nwofor.

1’ – We are under way!

3’ – Cautious start by both sides in the blazing sunshine in Dobsonville.

5’ – Mali are perhaps looking the more comfortable in the early stages but have as yet not created a clear-cut chance.

8’ – First corner for Nigeria as Osuchukwu sees his header tipped over the crossbar ,

9’ – Nwofor shoots wide from the set-piece.

11’ – Nigeria are starting to boss this and apply pressure on the Mali goal. Can they make their dominance count?

13’ – Toure goes down on the edge of the box but the referee says no foul. Unlucky there perhaps.

16’ – Nigeria, as they have all tournament, are trying to test the Maliens with high balls into the box. So far the Mali defence, and keeper Sy, have dealt with them well.

18’ – A terrible mistake from Sy almost lets in Kayode, but the keeper then does well to save the striker's goal-bound effort. Best chance of the game so far!

21’ – GOOOAAAAAALLLLL! Nwofor scores a controversial goal for Nigeria! Kayode looks to use his arm at the near post to flick the ball on, and Nwofor was there to tap home his third goal of the tournament! 1-0 Nigeria.

22’ – Mali are furious, they are convinced it was hand-ball from Kayode. And TV replays suggest they are right , goal stands though!

24’ – Mali get a corner as Toure sees his shot defelected wide. Poor defending there from Nigeria who should have dealt with the danger earlier.

25’ – Malle hits the post with his shot from the corner, so close for the Maliens!

27’ – Yellow card for Kone for a bad challenge on Daniel.

30’ – Mali have more urgency in their play since going behind and they are starting to string some passes together.

32’ – Corner for Mali , it is poor though, overhit and Nigeria clear.

35’ – Sy is forced to puch the ball to safety from a miss-hit cross. He was almost caught out there ,

38’ – Free-kick to Mali from the right, but Paul saves in the Nigeria goal.

39’ – Kalifa Traore (Mali (U20)) is cautioned.

41’ – Corner for Mali, can they make this one count? No they can't, another poor delivery.

44’ – Comedy of errors there as the Mali defender collides with his keeper and both players are down. The Maliens claim the defender was pushed by Kayode and it starts a bit of a bust-up. Kayode gets a yellow card for his troubles.

45 + 2’ – Deep in injury-time now and it looks like we will go into the break with Nigeria 1-0 in the lead.

45 + 4’ – Sy makes an outstanding save to deny Nwofor. Should have been 2-0, but Sy saves his side!

45 + 4’ – HALFTIME: So Nigeria lead 1-0 and should have scored another just before the break. Mali hit the post, but have offered little else,m despite seing plenty of the ball. Can they come back in the second period? we will have to wait and see!

46’ – We are back under way in the second half!

48’ – Free-kick to Nigeria some 35-yards out , it is over-hit though and Mali can clear.

50’ – Mali appeal for a penalty after Toure is felled, but the referee waves play on.

51’ – Yellow card for Ogungbe.

54’ – Mali have made a bright start to the half, but as yet have not really tested Paul in the Nigeria goal.

57’ – Another chance for Nwofor, but he cannot get his head to the cross at the back post?

60’ – Yellow card for Suswan. A wild kick at Kone.

62’ – Diallo shoots wide when he might have rather crossed for a teammate in the centre.

64’ – Corner for Mali , headed high and wide for a goal-kick.

67’ – Substitution for Nigeria: Edafe on for Osuchukwe.

70’ – Twenty minutes to go for Mali, but they are still failing to create clear-cut chances. Nigeria are looking comfortable.

72’ – Suswan commits a late foul and is lucky not to receive his second yellow card there ,

74’ – Should be 1-1! Diallo gets a free header at the back post but can only hit the woodwork and the follow-up is wide. What a chance!

78’ – Time is ticking on and Nigeria are still in control. Will Mali rue that excellent chance just a few minutes ago?

80’ – Substitution for Mali: Seydou Diallo on for Toure.

83’ – Mali have a headed effort on target but it is easy for Paul in the Nigeria goal.

86’ – Nigeria are pressing for a second as the clock winds down. It is getting to desperation time for Mali.

89’ – Almost the moment for Mali there as Ibrahima Diallo is put through on goal, but Paul does well to come out and smother the danger.

90 + 1’ – We will have five minutes of stoppage time.

90 + 2’ – Yellow card for Diarra. And deservedly so, a horror tackle.

90 + 4’ – Just a minute left, though we have had a number of stoppages in injury-time, so who knows how long this game will go on for!

90 + 5’ – PENALTY! Nigeria can seal it after they are awarded a spot-kick for a foul on Kayonde by Ibrahima Diallo. It looks the right call ,

90 + 6’ – Yellow card for Sylla for his protests.

90 + 8’ – GOAAAAAALLLLLL! Stanley Okoro scores from the spot and that seals it for Nigeria! 2-0 to Nigeria and they are going to the final!

90 + 9’ – Substitution for Nigeria: Envoh comes on for Kayode.

90 + 10’ – FULL TIME: Nigeria win and deservedly so. Mali only had one real chance in the match but hit the post, while Nigeria, who are improving as the tournament goes on, always looked in control. They will now meet either Cameroon or Egypt in Sunday's decider.
