Why is there South South, and there is no West West, East East and North North? Can someone Clarify it for me?
In the Nigerian map, Igboland and the Present South South should be known as south, and not East. The present South west up to some part of edo state should be known as West. Some parts in the present Northern Nigeria should make up Eastern Nigeria.
Igboland is totally connected to South South both in culture and region, but alot of effort is being made to ensure that Igboland is carefully demarcated from the South South. In the real sense, Cross river state is in the South East. Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states are in the South South, Delta state is in the South West and Enugu is in the South North. The original mid-belts are Kogi, Nassarawa, Abuja etc
I don't need ethnic fools and bigots here. Let's be realistic. Is it not confusing the way Nigeria is divided?

Even the geographical categorization of Nigerian regions is wrong. What other evidence does one need to prove that Nigeria is a freaking farce? SMH.

How can Kaduna Nzeogwu be known as a Mid-westerner, when he should be known as a Southern Nigerian from the South west?

I guess oil is the reason why the "Southern" part of Nigeria is being given so much attention. Everyone is claiming South now. If the North had a way to ptove it, they would have claimed "North South".

Nzeogwu came from Mid-Western State, that is why he is referred to as a Mid-Western. Mid-Western State was created in 1963. So the description of him as a Mid-Western is spot on similar to describing someone from spain as a spanish.

The Issue is, Is Asaba really in the "mid west"? And why mid-west and not South west? If you look at the map below, you will see that Delta is in the Western part of the "true" southern Nigeria.  Why was it called "Mid West"? It seems like a deliberate attempt to disintegrate the south.
"Mid west" does not make any meaning considering the location of Delta in the map. It is well dug inside the South. The mid west states should be Ondo and Edo.
I think it was all about oil. They tried to disintegrate the true Southern Nigeria, create conflict and take control of oil. A consequence of the war.

Some of this has already been discussed, but to answer the question about the geographical terms used, the terms also denote political grouping and cultural differences, not just geography. That's why there (used to be) one large "North" that was referred to, regardless of northeast or northwest, and that was contrasted with the south in all the older writing on Nigeria.  If not for this huge political and cultural divide, it's possible that geographical areas would have been referred to by the appropriate names and that that would have stuck, but I doubt that this would have had any effect on Nigeria's history, really.

Instead of discussing regional affiliation, we should talk about cultural and linguistic affiliation. I always hated the term South-South. I seen it as a way of balkanizing east of the river Niger. We all know that what the FG intention was to divide the Igbo from the oil producing areas, even though Igbos have been found in those regions, before Nigeria was even created. And now you have these small clans thinking they are a different ethnicity, even though they have our names, share our culture and speak our language. How can they say they are not our ethnicity, when they speak our language and share our names? It is not like they had a language prior to the Igbo language, so what is this nonsense. Oil makes people do foolish things. Even though these people will never reap the rewards of that oil wealth that they scream so much about. One cannot live on oil alone.

The people of this fictional 'South-South' do not need to be considered Igbo, since many have their own languages and culture. But the term SS is quite disheartening.

Made a Geographic blunder..

There is nothing like South South
In Geographic cardinality, direction or compass

Here is the correct naming below

South West = Western Nigeria Region
North West and North East = Northern Nigeria
North Central = Central Nigeria
South East = Eastern Nigeria Region
South South = Southern Nigeria region

Or
North West = North Western Nigeria region
and
North East = Northern Eastern Nigeria

The constitution of Nigeria does not recognize anything called South South or South East

Everyone belongs to a tribe, let everyone go with their tribe

It should be
South West all Yoruba states including Edo and Kwara states

South East all states that made up the old Eastern region

North Central;all middle beltan states, FCT should be given statehood with Kuje as Capital. While ABUJA remans Nigeria's capital just like Washington DC in USA

North West all states in the zone.

North East all states in the zone.

Each should have economic development agency

The reason
1. Nigeria was divided into north and south
2.north was divided into north west ,east and central in the of north central is because is the middle
3.south was divided into 3 south west, east and south in the of south south is because is the south of cardinal point

Get the two difference.
