EKITI BOOK CLUB STARTS READING OUTREACH PROGRAMME, TAKES READING CAMPAIGN TO OYE-EGBO HIGH SCHOOL

The appointment between the Ekiti Book Club and Oye-Egbo High school successfully went as planned. The school organised the senior secondary school students who are in various departments to participate actively in the art-lecture talk.
The Coordinator, Olamilekan Okebiorun, opened the floor by introducing the purpose, goals and objectives of the Book Club, underlying it with good educative songs. This garnered the attention of the students and things went forth very smoothly.
Owolabi Daniel Ayodeji, alias Emperor D'Writer, one of the members of EBC spoke on Reading Culture and ways to cultivate a healthy appetite for reading and how to improve in the skill of reading. Being a publisher, he volunteered to groom and publish the works of the students who writes into magazines.
Miss Omosua, another Speaker, taught the students on Literature and Writing; genres of literature and how they effect global change in the world. She also erased the misconception that writing is only for those inclined to arts and its ways. She affirms that any discipline of study can and must read and write.
The third speaker, Oluwapelumi Jegede known as Anike beloved, analysed the riddles of poetry, citing herself as an example to how the students can write spontaneously on things that intrigue them.
This led to the performance of the panegyrics of different States in Nigeria by the School's Head boy which earned him money-gifts by members of the EBC. The Head girl was also awarded money due to her fluency in answering art-related questions. This shows the quality diligence of the school in training up her young.
Afterwards, a call for students who are interested in writing is made and an outstanding number of students came out for this, penning down their names.
All in all, the art talk went positively and even more than expectations.
One of the teachers of the school, Mr James Idiowo, commended the EBC for the initiative programme said to be the first the school has ever received. He applauded the brain behind this and emphasized on the writing seed planted in the hearts of the students which would germinate with adequate follow-ups, especially with the creation of the School's Book/Press Club. He promised to make the school more hospitable for further meetings.
Notable thirteen members of the association showed up for this, out of whom are: Sofiat Ramon, Atere Olamipeju, Gideon Sagbo, Deborah Timilehin, Adeoye Florence, Henry W. Young, Happiness Olomu, Falade Benedicta, Ojo Hannah and the speakers.
