The COAS has authority and control over the army, the provost is the law keeper within the army, of course military intelligence deals with information. If peradventure there is, or will be a coup, these guys are primary targets. These guys have the loyalty of the guns. There won't be any successful takeover if they are not a part of it, in which case they can be eliminated.
It's all power play.
These are mere speculations though. It might just have been an unfortunate accident!
