No fewer than 8,400 bottles of beer have been destroyed in Dawakin Kudu and Kura Local Government Areas (LGAs) by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

The Commander­­-General of the board, Dr Harun Ibn-Sina, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Kano.

According to the statement “the vehicle was coming from Zaria to Kano when Hisbah officials arrested the driver.

“Hisbah Board has prohibited the sale of beer in the state to avoid being intoxicated”, he said.

The Commander-General also said that once the investigation was concluded, the suspects would be charged to court.

But seriously, beer must be an exotic drink in the north that people still invest in the business there. I remember one day when I was in Abuja, one mallama with her burqua abi whatever it is called they use in covering their heads and faces. This mallama came into a restaurant where I was eating and ordered a bottle of beer. Hmmmm... I was surprised o. This mallama finished a bottle of beer, wiped her mouth and used her veil to cover head and went out. Beer must be exotic up north. The restriction only makes it more desirable to them.
