The acting inspector-general of police, Alkali Baba has said the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) created a vacuum in policing the country.


Baba said this at a media briefing on Thursday in Abuja.


He added that the morale of police officers in the country has been low since the #EndSARS protests in October 2020.

Last October, there were protests in some states, largely organised by youths, to call for an end to police brutality.

They also demanded that SARS, a police unit, notorious for human rights abuses, should be disbanded.

During the protests against police brutality, the Nigeria police also unleashed terror on peaceful protesters in some many parts of the country, including at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, the epicentre of the struggle.

Leaving SARS to operate nearly reduced the population of southern youths by 20%. SARS became the armed robbers, kidnappers, bandits and extortionists.

SARS were used to settle village land cases, intimidate your neighbors and adversaries and even beat up your spouses and Co wives

Inn all these, the police hierarchy never stopped the madness of SARS operatives.

SARS wey extort my bro, my dad placed a call through, they tell am sey the phone wey dey my bro hand dey too much for his status as a student, sey e dey use iPhone 7 and e worth half a million, my dad wey no sabi anything about gadget believe them and even dey beg them, they collected all the cash for him hand and left him with token for tfare back to his hostel.
They called a tenant of ours(woman) wey dey sef foodstuffs sey make e come meet him bro that so so happen o, as that one hear bro, e no bother find out what exactly is the issue, they gave her address, e reach there, discover sey Na SARS call her, Oya wetin happen, dey said someone told them during investigation that she be their member for criminal activity, and they got her contact from the person, she just started using the line about a month before then. Oya, who is the person or show me the person, they no show her anybody o, her family sef no come know where she Waka go, she used full day there with her shop opened before they allow her call home before them go bail am.
Till date , she wasn't invited to identify the suspect that implicated her.

Is it #endsars that caused the breakdown of law and order? Hunger and anger is real. See the reasoning of the top hierarchy of police. Where is it done that police will collect your ATM, rob, maim and even kill you, just because you are a youth or driving nice cars. If his children or relatives are victims, will he reason like this? Injustice breed anarchy.
They know the truth, but want to say otherwise.

This IGP needs to be sacked with immediate alacrity
This statement shows he cannot think outside the box and only sobbed and whine over split milk
A more creative IGP would have up his game on use of technology in tracking criminals, increase the police criminal investigation department, highlight the top violent crime in each state, train personnel to burst criminals before they strike using undercover agent and technology.

Policing is not mounting road block and harassing both innocent and guilty citizen by unstable gun wielding policemen.
