You wrote lot of jargons.

The average pay for copywriters is 10 dollars on fiverr.

Many doctors are doing better off than programmers here in Nigeria.

There are lot of means to earn cash.

Do you know how much they pay the average programmers in Nigeria? 50 -70k per month

"Prolific copyrighters".

It's not my fault you don't understand simple English. The fact that programming can be monetised remotely compared to medicine provides a whole lot of leverage over disciplines which cannot be done same way.

Lol. Baba please rest. If your mum is close to becoming a consultant, then she is a senior registrar (SR) and those in the profession know how much a SR receives monthly.

Your mum is not a Doctor or she didn't disclose her full salary to you or they are deducting her money from source, probably for a debt owned!

You seem to know more about his mom than her only son. grin

Dude, no Senior Registrar earns less than 300k in Nigeria, not even in state hospitals. Either that chap is lying, or his mum's got lots of ongoing deductions.

Medicine is a small community and resident members know themselves and their pay. It isn't personal info.
Infact, list any government hospital offering training, and a doctor 3yrs post graduation will have at least 10 friends in that centre.

The fact that programming can be monetised remotely compared to medicine provides a whole lot of leverage over disciplines which cannot be done same way.

Many of these comparisons doesn't make sense. Many of the coders on this platform are unnecessarily loud, I think it’s the excitement that they earn foreign currency. Many people in Nigeria have been making millions for years but now it seems as if coding is the only profession in the to make it big.
Anywhere in the world Doctors generally earns far more than coders.
Nigeria coders makes so much noise because of currency conversion. You're paid 1k or 2k working remotely and that translates to about 500k/1M monthly. In the US that's peanuts but in Nigeria that's some money.
While I encourage anyone who is able to leverage such opportunities but please let's try to avoid senseless comparisons.
Whether you read Medicine, Arts, Science, Social Science or Humanities you can leverage your skills by using remote jobs to earn better than your peers earning locally. A friend read Fine Arts and earns about 4k monthly, English 2k monthly, Math’s 2k monthly, Graphics design 3k monthly, Sociology 2k monthly.
The technology for Doctors to work remotely is not widespread and I don't know if it's in Nigeria. Technologies like Hyperreal holograms, 3D operating rooms, MS Hololens, and Corning's specialty glass are becoming widespread and Covid-19 has caused a surge in telemedicine. In the next few years Doctors living in Nigeria and working remotely will be a norm.
I appreciate coders for their relentless activities and extending the functionalities of technology. While coders can reveal in the moment please avoid unnecessary comparisons.

Public sector pay scale is public knowledge. A little research on your part will tell if it's by only son or not. I'm not saying his wrong but my point is let's try to get facts instead of resorting to emotions.

Yeah 1 million a month is just 2000 dollars which you can get via remote jobs now. Medicine is good but not to practice in Nigeria. The best thing a doctor can Do Is to write foreign exams and japa after studies. My mom is a doctor presently doing her residency and she earns just 200k. I with less than a year of programming experience earn more than two times her monthly salary. If my mom was a doctor in the USA of course only very few programmers can match what she earns. The best thing doctors can do now is to japa but to even japa you need money and government has stopped paying salaries for housemanship.
Less than a year programming experience?

The bone of contention here isn't medical doctors' salaries globally compared to coders. It's doctors living in Nigeria with their coders counterparts. The opportunities for a coder in Nigeria to outearn a doctor is very high esp one when one considers the constant and consistent naira devaluation (I omitted owing salaries or strikes). Generally, anyone earning in dollars while in Nigeria outearns the next person earning same in naira (the one who does work remotely doesn't have to pay huge transport costs daily).

The comparisons are needed so that young ones about to advance to tertiary education should know what is demanded globally and how they can partake in these opportunities. As far as I am concerned, anyone who intends to study and practice medicine in Nigeria should aim to change his/her career trajectory.

If your reason for considering medicine as a course of study is because of the money... PLEASE DON'T STUDY MEDICINE!

Akintundexxy:
On this forum particularly, I've seen people being discouraged outrightly against studying medicine, especially those who are already in higher institutions but wish to change to MBBS or those who have been writing utme for years.

Honestly, the medical doctors I see around me are well to do..like they have high financial buoyancy.

If everyone learns programming or coding, who would need the service anymore?
It's better to secure a realistic future than live in the realm of assumption.

I read of many tall tales on this thread about going abroad to practice medicine, about the untold sums of money to be earned as a doctor in places like the U.S. The truth is that in such places, medicine is vastly over-priced and the supply side of the market is becoming saturated. Medical practitioners are not earning nearly as much as they used to. The average general practitioner earns about $140,000 per year. The average software engineer/programmer earns about $120,000, but the standard deviation of earnings for software engineers is much greater, especially for those that engage in some form of self-employment(freelance et al). While we in Nigeria might consider $140,000 per year some sort of "big money", consider this: In that tax bracket, some 40% of your salary goes to the govt as taxes and levies, and all(most) medical doctors in the U.S. must purchase malpractice insurance(which is one of the major reasons why MD salaries are so high to begin with, not that their work is especially challenging), that is to cover for the occasional predatory lawsuits which is very common in that country. At the end of the day, you're putting in 12 hour work days and coming up shorter than that professional developer sitting at home in his pajamas tending to his clients online. In this case, the grass is evidently not greener on the other side. Be informed!

Even profilic copywriters can outearn medical doctors let alone the average coder. Look, any skill/profession which can be digitalised and done remotely has higher chances of outearning a medical doctor based in Nigeria.

Check Tensazangetsu20's post, how many medical doctors earn one million naira monthly in Nigeria? How many years does it take to achieve that status? Yours truly has to write ONLY fifteen articles (max 2 pages) and I'll earn N1, 500, 000. My years of experience of writing? Less than three.

Practicing medicine/nursing/pharmacy in Nigeria no be am.
But sir please how I learn that abeg

I support your mission. Let's spread it to everyone that you can easily make money if you're a coder and working remotely. By extension that's applicable for some other fields. Let's spread this with the right motive.

That's a different goal for most that want to study medicine either in Nigeria or anywhere else. Most persons are not studding medicine for financial gains. Even if the the motive is financial Medicine is still better in the long term.

The truth is most of us study what is thrown at us. I don't know of anyone who studied their passion and doesn't have job satisfaction.

I worked in the IT industry and the company decided to hire remote coders because many of the coders we had resigned to pursue other interests. The pay was awesome but when you work just for the pay you'll soon realize that no matter how much you earn, it will never be enough. By having money as your ultimate goal, you will never be satisfied and worse is the long term physical and mental effects.

Everyone cannot learn how to program. In fact(and I am using real statistics here and not just dreaming up numbers) only less than 1% of **university students** can become sufficiently skilled in programming to become market functional and they are highly sought, not only in Nigeria but also internationally. MBBS on the other hand is quite a bit more lenient to entrants, where it's really about the stamina to go through course work that matters. I do free-lance work internationally and all of my work involves programming, in addition to more technical stuff, and I see about $4000 every month(2million Naira). I'm a bit surprised to learn that MDs earn 300K though. I would have thought at least 1 million a month.
if you really have money from programming as you say dash me 50k.

True talk!
Many are speaking what they don't know about.
As a Medical Doctor, your goal include: saving life, accepting Double- Honour (MBBS) of the Profession and striving to improve yourself and the chosen Career.
We should avoid thinking less that money is everything, especially in Nigeria.
After God,the Doctors are the ones who can pronounced somebody dead-with certifate issued,no other Profession can do that!
In America,a Medical Dr can enter anyshop and buy as much, without the shop owner bordering self because the Pay of the Dr is sufficient.
Our lazy attitude in Nigeria and a folly govt affairs, that prefers going abroad to treat themselves and family is the reason for lazy comparisons.
Medicine is Medicine.Period!

What's my business with the United States? The aim of my post is comparing a coder/anyone with a skill which can be monetised online in the Nigeria to a medical doctor earning in the worthless naira in the same Nigeria

Again, a profilic coder who earns in dollars outearns his medical doctor counterpart while both are in Nigeria. My business isn't with doctors who relocate.
