Dangers of Excessive Speeding While Driving

Excessive Speeding is defined as going faster than the speed limit, as well as driving too fast in certain conditions, such as inclement weather or road construction. The dangers of speeding are numerous and while it is tempting to drive fast, the benefits of excessive speeding don’t outweigh the dangers.

Most people speed in order to get to work or an appointment on time. Some just aren’t paying attention to the manner in which they are driving. A handful of others do it just to have fun or to challenge other drivers on the highway. You may not get caught while speeding but you might inflict horrible damage on yourself, your vehicle, and other people.

According to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), one-third of all fatal automobile crashes involve drivers who were speeding. Excessive speeding is the number one probable causal factor of road crashes in Nigeria, followed by loss of control which can also be caused by speeding. As mentioned earlier, the dangers of excessive speeding outweigh the benefits, the price is way greater than the thrill.

One of the dangers of excessive speeding is that the higher the speed, the greater the impact of the crash. There is a clear link between speed and fatalities. Driving at an excessive rate of speed decreases the amount of time that a driver has to avoid a crash. Once the crash occurs, it is much more likely to be severe when the vehicles are traveling at a high rate of speed. The risk of suffering a serious injury or dying also increases with the higher rate of speed.

Those who speed also tend to engage in other risky behaviors. They are less likely to wear their seat belts so their risk of injury during a vehicular accident is exponentially heightened. So while it might be fun to drive fast, it is incredibly dangerous. When you drive at fast speeds, you lose your ability to control your vehicle and you put the well-being of everyone else on the road at risk.

Excessive Speeding

Another pitfall of excessive speeding is its expense. A speeding ticket will set you back between #5,000 and #40,000. That’s a lot of money plus it would take a lot of time to finalize the fines and process, the end result will be loss of money and waste of time for you. There is also the danger of losing your license.

It is also worth noting that driving the speed limit or lower will save you money at the pump.

In the event that you get in an accident due to excessive speeding, you might lose your vehicle, your life, or both. Other people may also be involved in the accident. Even if you are lucky, you may have to pay for a lot of damages made to your vehicle or other people involved. It really is not worth the price, which is why you must never exceed the speed limit and always drive responsibly.
