He defected because he felt as the chief executive officer of the state, he should be the one controlling the party structures at the state level. To him not been in control is crisis enough to leave the party.
Same thing happened in Benue state. Ortom didn't leave the APC for PDP because he cared about his people or Fulani militia killings as he would have many believe. He left because he wasn't in control of the party structures at the state level. Senator Gamade was. The moment he moved to PDP they gave him control of the party structures at the state level, same with Ayade

but why had the party loyalists not defected with ayade if what you said was true? Why did he sack those who refused to go with him? Those who are corrupt and still in the pdp are mostly occupying one position or the other... either governor or deputy. Those who had ended their tenure and being probed like akpabio, orji kalu, etc had to run to the apc for their sins to be suspended ( their sins can't be forgiven as many mistakenly posit).

Orton's case isn't the same. He left the apc because he felt abandoned when herders unleashed constant terror on benue. He said he's been abandoned by buhari and there was no need to stay in a place where he wasn't welcome.
