Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has described the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution by the National Assembly as a complete waste of time, saying nothing will come out of it.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, the governor said the National Assembly headed by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan budgets money annually for the constitution review exercise, adding that what they are doing now is to spend the budgeted money.

Speaking further, the governor wondered why the National Assembly and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have refused to implement the report of the 2014 National conference which was convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said “The ongoing constitution review is a complete waste of time. When they even took people to Abuja, they stayed there and they produced a document”.

” Former President Goodluck Jonathan didn’t sign it because he thought he was going to come back and wanted to sign it after coming back. That document has been on their table since 2015, what have they done with it?”

“Yes, every year they vote money for the review of the constitution and the National Assembly they have to spend that money. That is the exercise going on now. If anything comes out of it, that may be my end in politics"

On cyclical fruitless constitutional review by NASS as a way to formally 'spend-loot' money, Gov. Makinde said the pure truth. That former DSP of Senate, Sen. Ekweremmadu and former DS of House of Reps Emeka Ihedioha who headed past reviews are stupendously rich are clear evidence.

However, year 2021 is a CRITICAL year. I am hopeful some key amendments will be made to move Nigeria off the precipice.

This Nation is crumbling and we Nigerians should not watch it crumble and collapse totally. no matter how you try to run, no matter where you go a Yoruba adage will say a stranger can never be treated as a son. over there you're still that black Negro from a 3rd world shithole. why do you really have to run abroad and live a life next to a slave whilst ur country is blessed and the only thing needed to change things is for the citizens to rise against tyranny, nothing is working, people are hungry even in their poverty state lotta people can't still sleep or move out without fears of being Kidnapped. Edmund Burke would say “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

What could had been better than the 2014 national conference and yet none of the recommendations had been adopted.
I wish we can have leaders up-to 1% as good & prepared as leaders of western countries.
