Foolish government, to be able to have a successful league you will need foreign investors. How would you have anyone invest in Nigeria league when you are busy banning platforms like twitter which plays essential roles in sport and modern marketing?

I will not be surprise if he ban dstv from broadcasting Premier league and other foreign sports and force us to stick to kano pillar and Elkanemi and kwara United as a way our boasting our died football league... and the clowns he has as aides will support their illiterate demigod

Surprisingly, your 'fear' sounds similar to what one South African coach proposed over ten years ago for his country's League...ban premier league matches showing, and give proiminence to our local game.

It did not happen (and DSTV already then, as now, does air the SA league on a dedicated channel). The SA league also was already playing matches outside the EPL time slot.

Foreign investors won't come to the Nigerian game for the same reason why they did not come before Buhari

Investing in a football club means you want to make money on your investment, which for Nigeria means things like higher ticket prices, higher prices for club merchandise, and so on. Which Nigerian fans don't want.

Investment is not just about coming in to lavish money to build things like a rich man does on his favourite wife of all the wives. It is about also expecting the thing you are lavishing money on to make more money for you by working harder....

Please, impress the Masses first!
NFA and all its Subsidiaries is one of the govt fraudulent Institutions like NNPC that are all milking Nigeria dry.
These institutions have not contributed any meaningful derivatives to Nigerian masses for a long time.
Just imagine the forgotten National Stadium, wasting away.Very soon,it will be sold to cronies and like Dangote Refinery, they will come through the back door to acquire Shares! Are we really ok in Nigeria?

There is no other way than letting those who are versed and passionate about sport run it.

Let philanthropist own clubs and government can give them guidelines for ownership and then conduct periodic checks on their modus operandi for compliance. Those found wanting are taken over and offered for sale.

I doubt anyone wants to ban DSTV right now.(Too many jobs linked to it directly)

Plus, our league does get aired on Startimes.

If we want the league to prosper we have to pay the money to make it prosper

In the 1980'S and early 1990's, most people could not watch European football live...so you had to watch your local football team live to get your weekly football fix.

This meant that football matches in most Nigerian stadia were well attended, and thus money flowed into club coffers.

European football was only avaialable 1) on the back pages of newspapers, and anyway most of the news coverage them was on local games, not foreign)
2.Highlight shows..which aired two weeks after the matches had been played.(Anyone remember Rothman's european football?)
3.BBC radio broadcasts

The rise of cable tv from the late 80's onward, and the advent of the TV viewing center...meant that the money stopped flowing , and Nigerian footy got broke. That states took over around the same time happened to be a coincidence.

Our league was better than their leagues and the pay was okay, reason why many of them never bother to play abroad even when many of them had the opportunity to do so. It was a period when fans will travel from one region to others to cheer that team. It was a period when the stadium will be filled to capacity as early as 12pm for a match that will be play by 4pm.

Yes, back in the 1980's some Nigerian players did go abroad. (especially the youth team graduates; I even recall one guy that played in Brazil self!)..but most did not.

European leagues back then were not the money spinners they are now, plus most clubs were made up of indigenous players then (rules on foreign players were a lot restrictive back then)..plus many European c;lubs did not know about Africa or African players

It was the FIFA youth tournaments that changed all that. Suddenly clubs wanted to buy more and more African players...and by the early 1990's ., Nigerian players were moving abroad in their numbers.

As for payment...clubs could afford to pay players well then because people were attending their matches in large numbers...and paying for tickets to do so...which meant money flowed in. No viewing centers, (and ironically NTA did not air live matches then...except FA cup games..so you want to watch football, you went to a game directly). Nowadays, you can't get that high a number of fans attending matches....because they are either at home or at a TV viewing center watching Chelsea taking on Arsenal live...something that you could not do in the 1980's or 90's.

Thanks.

By the way, I agree fully with your assertion that state governments taking over too has not made anything better.

But all in all, Nigerian football needs money...and that means finding a way to attract a generation of fans that grew up watching live EPL matches
