In my opinion the action of the federal government could attract economic sanctions on the Country. Twitter is one the united states tech giants and if our fg decides to ban them in our country,I see that as starting an economic war against the united states. Remember that us is very good in placing dictatorial government under economic sanctions and I wonder if Nigeria can survive such. 1 Like |

FreedomArmy: How will Nigeria survive? These people allow us usage of these apps, so that the world does not tag them racists . They have lost more money to fraudsters by allowing Nigerians access, than they will ever make from Nigerian users. Yet, they did not stop Nigerians from accessing their apps. Its now Nigeria that wants to do them the favour of removing Nigeria. Why do you think facebook did the same? So the government will help them ban Nigeria. |

God even save us buhari did not ban Twitter during trump regime. He would have replied with equal measure. Just because of digital tax being proposed by French government, trump threaten to raise taxes on french made wine. Nigerians should get involved in global politics this would help her citizens in choosing a sound leader. I see this action by buhari been challenged in Congress in no distant time. |

mekaboy:Sure, Congress will surely act and present it to biden in coming weeks. Nigeria handlers are dullards If Nigeria government were smart, banning was never a smart thing to do. Westerners hate that language especially their own products. What the government would have done is to raise a bill through national assembly mandating tech companies operating in Nigeria without physical office to be banned. Or put some crazy taxes on them. |

mekaboy: Without the United states, you can trade. Is paypal not banned in Nigeria. Visa, paypal and Mastercard are just companies, there are lot of alternatives. Not all foreign transfer passes through United states intermediary bank and not all banks use intermediary banks. Intermidiary banks are just middle men, it is an agreement between 2 banks to help handle international payments. |

Re: Twiter Ban: The Impact On Foreign Investment by Nobody: 5:54pm On Jun 05, 2021 |
dejol88: United states do have influence but swift is owned by about 3500 banks in the world. They also have to vote to sanction a country Russia is not being threatened to be removed from swift. Russia is de-dollarising its foreign reserve and removing its dependency on the dollar |
Re: Twiter Ban: The Impact On Foreign Investment by Nobody: 5:57pm On Jun 05, 2021 |
mekaboy: Not true. People in Europe transact in euro. Here in Nigeria, if you are sending money to Europe, you send euro, to the uk, pounds, to other countries not in Europe, the USD. |

Nigeria’s constitution provides for freedom of expression. The Government’s recent #Twitterban undermines Nigerians’ ability to exercise this fundamental freedom and sends a poor message to its citizens, investors and businesses. Banning social media and curbing every citizen’s ability to seek, receive, and impart information undermines fundamental freedoms. As President Biden has stated, our need for individual expression, open public conversation, and accountability has never been greater. The path to a more secure Nigeria lies in more, not less communication, alongside concerted efforts toward unity, peace, and prosperity. https://ng.usembassy.gov/u-s-mission-nigeria-statement-twitter-ban/

There is no significant impact! Twitter already has a reputation of being a purveyor of fake news and agents of destabilization of other countries. It has problem in Turkey Russia India France etc The total number of users of Twitters in Nigeria is less than 4m - so what is the noise all about. Even our Nairaland has more number of users. WhatsApp is the most used social media platform in Nigeria and it has a wider usage than Twitter by x4 or 5. 1 Like 1 Share |
