Freelance writing has become one of the most popular remote jobs in Nigeria and the world as a whole. And while some writers are at best average, there are those (such as myself) who have mastered the art of putting "pen to paper".

Don't fret if your writing skills aren't at par yet, we can't all be geniuses. However, there are simple tips you can follow to make your writing better.

As long as your English is good enough, you can follow the tips below to create better written content.

1. Prioritize Originality

Your excellent use of English won't matter much if your writing feels and looks the same as the source material.

We get it, no one knows everything, which is why we need to do some research before we write in certain niches. But that doesn't mean you can't make yours look like an original copy!

2. Make Your Writing More Readable

No one wants to read an article that looks like a gathering of End SARS protesters. Long and clustered sentences or paragraphs aren't appealing to readers, and they'll lose interest as soon as reading becomes problematic!

Keep it to around 3 short sentences per paragraph for better readability.

3. Punctuate Better

The full stops, commas, question marks, and so on must be used accordingly when writing.

With proper punctuation, the readers will actually feel like they are being spoken to by a person, and this will make reading more enjoyable!

4. Use The Appropriate Tone

You shouldn't sound all joyous and goofy when writing about a bombing in Afghanistan where 35 people died (just an instance). You can leave the playfulness for articles that have fun sides to it.

Always use a tone that fits what you are writing about.

5. Proofread At The End

Since we are only human, it means no one is above mistakes!

For this reason, you should always run through your work from the very beginning to the very end and check for grammatical errors.

Trust me, there's hardly a write-up that's perfect on first draft. Look at it again and make amends where necessary.

Don't let a small typo error stain your brilliant work!
