The Vice-chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Elom has constituted the Board of the University’s Radio Station, 104.7 FM.

The constitution of a Board is one of the conditions for issuing license to a radio station by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

While inaugurating the Board yesterday, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by Prof. Michael Onuu noted that Management constituted the Board to oversee the affairs of the university radio station, in a bid to make it functional and the number one radio station in Ebonyi state and environs.

Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the board was to among other things seek to obtain a license for the radio station and work with and guides Management to actualize the dreams of the University in the area of community radio broadcasting. He also stressed the importance of using the radio as a source of internally-generated revenue for the University, adding that though the tasks were onerous but he found it very interesting.



While on inspection tour with members of the Board to the Radio Station, the Chairman of the Board, Prof. Onuu stated that the Board has high expectations for the station, as they were prepared to ensure that it serves the University community such as students of various disciplines like Mass Communication, Theatre Arts, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, who are now opportune to have a place for their industrial training at the station, and members of the public for other purposes.

He expressed confidence that the Vice-chancellor having selected such a team with far-reaching experience, they will do exploits such that the University Community will be happy because of the activities of the studio.



Also speaking during the tour of facilities, Mrs. Enuma Afam Icha-Ituma appreciated the Vice-chancellor, for selecting those with practical and field knowledge in broadcasting and other relevant disciplines as Board members of the radio station, stating that the team would move the station to greater heights by making it the most listened to station in Ebonyi state.

Dr. Charles Okwuowulu while also speaking during the tour expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, for appointing a Board for the station. He stated that with the wealth of experience of members, he expects the Radio Station to be competitive in the digital space. He pledged that the Board would work together with Management of the Station to ensure that the station becomes the best.

Members of the Board are Prof. Michael Onuu (Chairman), Mr. Chris Akubuiro (Station Manager), Mrs. Enuma Afam Icha-Ituma, Dr. Charles Okwuowulu, Mr. Elom Iyke Ubochi, Engr. Olaowoore P. Olabiri and Mr. Chukwuma John Ekpe while Mrs. Kate N. Nwankwo will serve as Secretary.
