As the nation celebrates June 12 as Democracy Day, Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged residents of Ogun State not to join any protest.

Gov Abiodun feared that resorting to protest could breed violence, saying such protests could be hijacked by those he called hoodlums and enemies of democracy, harbouring ulterior motives.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST by his new media aide, Emmanuel Ojo, the governor charged Ogun people to celebrate June 12 peacefully.

This, he said, became necessary to avoid any act that could threaten the security of the State and the nation at large.

According to the statement signed by Abiodun’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, it was stated that “June 12 is a day for the celebration of democracy and “we should not do anything to tarnish the day and what it stands for.”

He noted that, “M.K.O Abiola, the symbol of June 12 celebration abhorred violence.”

Meanwhile, some individuals are already mobilizing for the protest scheduled to commence on Saturday morning.

Our correspondent gathered that the protesters from the three senatorial districts of Ogun State have agreed to converge on the NUJ Secretariat, Iwe-Iroyin, Abeokuta by 7am.

Violent protest is what should be quelled with minimal state force.

Peaceful protest is an inalienable right of every citizen and should not be taken away under any pretence.

The government should rather make provision for peaceful protest and protect the protesters adequately from sponsored arsonists.

Ok. Every Nigerian have the right to protest. The most important thing is for the protest to be devoid of violence and done responsibly.
Happy democracy day.

It's hard to take a bald headed man serious. They're never straight forward. Don't come out to protest or celebrate democracy if you're bald. The constitution says you don't have the right. MKO Abiola wouldn't be celebrated or respected if he was bald. Baldheaded men didn't gain independence with us. They're always hungry at every public event, no matter how many plates of jollof rice you give them. If a baldheaded man is your lecturer, just know you'll fail that course, no matter how hard you study. They're responsible for Global warming 'cause their heads produce so much heat that affects the atmosphere. You'll always sweat whenever you're around a bald headed man. Bald headed men have an organization where they secretly gather to lick each other's heads. P.s. I've been sipping on the finest vodka since 4am, so I'm just cooling. cool

I'm yet to understand why these governors keep saying don't protest?
Can anyone explain please?

So we will be in a wicked nation where the Elite goes home with everything.. I mean everything.

And you expect the people not to get fed up and revolt at some point?

Even American politicians are corrupt and embezzle money, but they use their head in the stealing and they also make sure the needs of the people are met, so that no body blows whistle or challenges them.

It's called common sense.. But black man and greed.

These present administration is more afraid of a protest than terrorists attacks because they are clueless and terrorism prone.
No iota of good policies for governance.

Actions to Take:

· Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.

· Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.

· Monitor local media for updates.

· Keep a low profile.
As long as the protest is peaceful and some hoodlums and gunmen don't go about disturbing the peace of other citizens.
As long as they don't go about shooting other citizens.
As long as they don't go about burglarizing shops and banks and people private businesses,
as long as they don't go about burning buildings or raping innocent ladies.
They are welcome.....

This is a kinda peaceful demonstration/protest below.....
