I have been to the 2 places having lived and schooled in Bauchi, I cannot advise you to try any of the 2 places for jobs except you want to start up some business. On a scale Jos is better than Gombe anyways but like I said, if it has to do with jobs, there is nothing in those places. Cost of living might be comparatively cheap in those places but that will give you a false sense of ‘living well’ which can dull your enterprise and competitive spirit.
Kano might be a better option if the North is strictly your idea of a ‘shift’ from Lagos but be ready to contend with culture shocks.

I'm a graduate from one of the south west university in Nigeria, and i spend all my life in Lagos state , and also a yoruba guy from Lagos State.

But due to the rising and unavailability of good jobs around, i have been thinking of moving over to the North for greener pasture, i want to leave my comfort zone.

So, two states are on my mind, plateau state or gombe.

I really want input of individuals on this issues:

Cost of living

Availability of jobs

Security

Acceptability of strangers, and many more.

Which state do you guys think is ok, I'm really in need of a good job.

I will really appreciate this topic to be in frontpage so as to reach wider audience.

I will prefer to die in Lagos than to enter states that I won't sleep with my eyes close....Lagos is the most secured state in Nigeria ....there are opportunities here .,.you just 've to think outside the box. When I completed my nysc at ogbomoso....there wasn't job for me...I asked myself ...how can I 've creative...? What makes me different from someone that didn't go to school ? The answer to thus question reposition myself . I am not rich but I am comfortable. ..I am not a motivational speaker ...but I 've to tell you exactly what I did and still doing till date ...I got myself a nice phone , start visiting car dealers stand ....I demanded to speak with manager ...they all allow me to snap and start advertising on nairaland and jiji....I started earning commission ....in my place of residence I gave them my business card in the community meeting ...atleast they all know what I do for a living ...,in 3 months I supplied 10 corolla to a residence who just moved to Abuja ...he is using those corolla for uber business in Abuja ...just yesterday , he contacted me to supply one more corolla for him but his budget was 2million ...I am working on it right now...There is room for growth ...I just told you how I started ....right now I just sit thst and receive phone calls from client demanding for cars....Aside this, I also get involved in real estate....someone from my estate sold his house for 45million ....I brought the buyer ....this I did by contacting some of my people abroad ....describing the property and how valuable it is....I am still searching for properties for others . One good thing about this business us tgat ...one of those you help get a property can introduce about 5 more people that need such ...I wish you good luck...I don't play with my security .

Unless you have a job offer in hands, with exception of Abuja, it's ill-advised to move to the North in search of a job.

Don't ever try to leave Lagos for Jos or Gombe...I have lived in both northern towns... I'm currently in Lagos... There's nothing there except teaching jobs...the NGO jobs are no longer available...

I was born and brought up in jos before nysc took me out. Spent over 25yrs in jos so I can relatively say plateau is a place to be.
Security is relatively ok, truth is jos is decided between the muslims and christian. Every of these religion have their dominated areas, it's only business that brings everyone together in areas like terminus market, bukuru market etc. So if you are to come to jos I advise u to locate your area where your people are and stay there. If you are a christian then areas like state locus, rayfield, old airport, zaramaganda, apata, busa buji, gada biu, rukuba road, rock heaven, polo, utan etc is ok for you to stay
If you are a muslim then bauchi road, shagari corner katako, dilimi, etc is ok for you.

On the cost of living plateau is very cheap. You have lots of God and vegetables, cereals, etc. You sure won't spend much on feeding

Accomodation is also affordable in jos

Now it depends on what u studied in school or your skill. Money is not much in jos depending on your specialisation, but u surely will find something to do with God's help. Jos is a better location for u to relocate to

Don't forget it's freaking cold over there. Prepare for that

Cutezt:

I am from Jos north lga, a bona-fide Plateau man, and if it is white collar job you are looking for in Plateau, don't waste your time, except you want to start up your own. I don't know about gombe tho, but I am pretty sure Plateau is even better than gombe.
Bros, you are correct o cheesy
I started my career in Jos, I stayed around Rukuba Road and was teaching in a private secondary school at the same time I was going to school in UJ.
After my education, I moved through the north a little bit and today, I am still in the north and with a stable FG job wink
One thing I observed while in Jos was that the people are wonderfully friendly, especially if you're a Christian living in Christian area!
But the only thing the Plateau people will not share with you is the government job, both the state and federal.

No go ooooo.na north I dey precisely abj. But far north is a no no no. My friend from Gombe says it is peaceful but no jobs. Gombe dry like Sahara desert. As for plateau state, too many religious fights over there. Anyway, it is ur choice to make. I don talk my own.

If you are business oriented Plateau is ok, that's the only thing can help you on the Plateau, am living in Jos, in terms of security na everywhere, but you need to have someone that will help you understand the area. Business will help you well in Jos.

Plateau State: Insecurity and Herdsmen insurgency!

Gombe: State with the highest number of venomous snakes and zero anti-venom.

Oga, go back to the drawing board!

While your advice is okay. You need to take into cognizance that not everyone wants to spend their earthly life running around.
Lagos is a rat race that I have discovered limits ones true enjoyment of life.
Bros.... money is not everything o!
Cti28:
The states you mentioned, are dominated by civil servants.

Business only trives, when salary is paid.
Secondly, there are less factories and private establishments.

Unless you wish to go into teaching, but the pay is less, though cost of living is low.

Why not choose Lagos?

Plateau and Gombe used to be neighbours (Gombe carved from Bauchi State).

Plateau has more interesting places like Jos.

Plateau has more Christians and more jobs but more competition

Jos has an airport you can use to fly to Lagos directly

What are you smoking bro? You need to change your weed dealer! Lagos state has more opportunities for hustlers than any state in Nigeria, and even more than abuja. Look around you mix up with people, there are alot of opportunities around you and your problem is just that you cant see it, if you are talking about leaving your comfort zone and migrating to north africa to hustle and eventually leaving this hell just like my friend did who is in europe now then i will advice you start with jigawa or katsina and make sure you have like 100k in your account with your master card and moving from one country to another exploring their women, food, etc and just having fun untill you get to your final destination. Its not gonna be easy coz you still gonna hustle along the way thats why you are a man and life is all about risk! My friend did it 15 years back today he is a citizen married to a white lady with 2 lovely kids. Cheers

The airport is not in Jos, it is in Barkin-Ladi and herdsmen always attack close to the airport. He could be attacked and killed before getting to the airport sad
Though I am not saying he should not move to Jos, I am only saying that he should not have false impression of security because of an airport!
