I imagine taking Lagos to ibadan for #2,500 when actually the bus fare is less than#2,000.
Many of these leaders ehnnn,it's like they are doing semovita in their heads.
If you consider the speed, comfort, the fact you won't be in one spot due to gridlock, then that 2500 is actually cheaper than the 2000.

How much do you want the fare to be before it will become cheap in your eyes? Is it N500...??

You have it exactly right. Unfortunately your points will be lost on people whose time is of no value, which is why they are complaining bitterly about prices that probably don't even cover half the cost of operating the service.

This bizarre complaint by the NUR about prices which are already far too low to service the loans taken to build the service, along with contradictory calls by the same NUR to hike the pay of the train-operators of said unprofitable service, are illustrative of why it is such a terrible idea to have the Nigerian government run anything that could be operated commercially. If the trains were sold off to private operators, they would take on all the risks involved in juggling ticket costs, maintenance, employee compensation, etc., and the need to earn a profit would steel them against the usual Nigerian diseases of incompetent, dishonest managers overstaffing with surly, lazy, thieving employees while packing trains so full they quickly fall to pieces. Instead, we currently have the worst of possible worlds, with the FG liable for billions of USD to China, all for the sake of a service whose heavily subsidized cost is completely lost on a public which expects Japanese Shinkansen level trains for the price of "molue" tickets.

Its so funny and contradictory that the NUR said the fare was too much for Nigerians and in the same breath say their pay should be increased. In other words, the government should reduce the fare to N1000 and increase their pay to N100,000.

And Nigerians that look for every opportunity to complain and ridicule the country actually agree that the rail service should be handed off to private individuals, forgetting that a private individual would operate the train for maximum profit and the N2,500 they say is too much for them would be increased to at least N5,000 in order for the private company to maintain, fuel and pay their staffs salaries..

I think the best thing any government can do to shut people up is the appoint the most vocal critics to head so of this commission. Let's see how they can manage the commission and at the same time make profit.

From beginning to the end of the write-up, nothing about the actual fare was mentioned.
And that is the main thing Nigerians are waiting to read.

What manner of Journalism is this?!
