If the present NBC Act lacks the power to regulate Twitter, why did Lai Mohammed go ahead to suspend the use of Twitter in Nigeria? 4 Likes |

Mr. Regulator well done. In two years you will be out of government and the precedents you set today will make you and your children victims of oppression and maladministration tomorrow. For when you strip the people of their God given rights and Constitutional power to hold government to account just make sure two things: You remain on the side of oppression forever or much harder sir, guarantee that a much more oppressive regime is not elected into office. Time and again we have seen short term thinkers in power regret their actions after they leave. Today, the likes of Gowon, OBJ, IBB and all the totalitarian rulers of the past all wished they had bequeathed a better country in which universal liberties were promoted, and the citizens empowered to secure good governance. But just like them, well done sir for continuously weakening the citizens of this country. Tomorrow as a 'bloody civilian' you will sit down with us and wail at bad leadership when someone worse than your principal gets elected. What comes around, goes around. Mr Lai, YOU WILL SURELY COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS IN THE FUTURE. SURELY. Your time will come. 2 Likes |

Does this man think? You will punish Twitter for negative words said about Nigeria? Ok who judges that the words are negative? Other countries have rights to free speech - you want Twitter to restrict the rights of those citizens to free speech and thus violate those nation's laws? Where do you draw the cyber boundaries? Is it tweets made in Nigeria? What is Nigeria's boundary in cyberspace? There are so many questions and clarifications regarding the technical and political execution of this. This move he is making - there is a reason democracies are careful about pushing it. As long as Nigeria seeks to be a democracy, this move should not be on its list. The government's stance should be that they will notify Twitter of any offensive tweets. Unfortunately the government also has people in it who make offensive tweets e.g. Pantami, Buhari etc. 1 Like 1 Share |

lexy2014:The platform that is used to promote anarchy and division is not a problem? 2020 protest turned something else because of twitter, people loot shops and upload it on twitter and other got the info and continued the act. Twitter is even worse than NL in promoting division, u might say Nigeria should break up, but that doesn't disprove the fact that the Yoruba's, Hausa and South south will still be ur neighbours if eventually the country breaks. Twitter needs to be regulated, it is one of the problems the country faces. |

richmond500: Has there ever been a time that Nigeria was united? How is Twitter promoting division in Nigeria? All these anarchy and division u mentioned, was it not in Nigeria before 2020? Can u highlight d timeline of events of d 2020 protests and how Twitter was responsible for d destruction of property in Lagos on d said day? Did d fact that d Czechs were still going to be d neighbours of d slovaks prevent Czechoslovakia from breaking up? How does hausa, Yoruba & South south being neighbours after breakup now negate d reasons for breakup? 1 Like |

lexy2014:There is division in every society. Twitter promotes division in Nigeria and if u can't see it then I am done with this thread. Secondly if social media helps in promoting division between u and Yoruba, u will find it difficult after the breakup, even Israel cant sleep with both eyes closed and u sre no way near israel in terms of combat and military strength, the bitterness and hatred is more prevalent on those that have access to internet thanks to how these social media had helped in promoting the division Btw, why is regulating the activities of twitter by a govt giving u headache? Are u a conflict entrepreneur? |

He enjoyed free and open press, and spoke as he wanted before 2015, but today he's already trying in vain to shut the freedom of Nigerians to speak which is a fundamental right of every citizen. I ask, is this a military government or civilian? I can't distinguish anymore. 1 Like |
