According to his friends who have taken to social media to mourn him, Ayeni was rushed to the University College Hospital Ibadan and another private hospital but was rejected as the hospital staff allegedly demanded a police report before they could treat his gunshot injury.

The refusal to treat Ayeni, a gunshot victim without first obtaining a police report, has been one of the most worrisome public health issues which is a longstanding practice that is now illegal in the country.

Instead of his friends just mourning , can't some of them take this matter up wit the hospitals and seek legal redress ? NIGERIANS like complaining a lot when we could just take some steps to right a wrong.....

You see this issue of you must obtain a police report before being treated as a gun shot victim is just like that of dismantling of road blocks.
For the past few years, each time a new IG comes in, during the inaugural address ,they always talk about dismantling of road blocks but what happens there after, nothing.
So even if people come out now to demonstrate concerning this guy's death, the government will simply come out to reaffirm it's position that gun shot victims should be treated without having to first obtain a police report but at the end of day, the status quo remains.

Some good update on this. It is now a punishable offence to reject gunshot and knife wound victims with a fine and 5 year jail term.

For too long too many innocent gunshot and knife wound victims have been rejected and left to bleed to death by pharmacies and hospitals demanding for Police Report first before administering treatment, even first aid.

I pity those that have left innocent people to die because they have shared in the guilt of the victim's blood.
