One of the best comments I've read lately on Nairaland.

festacman:
Naked Truth: As presently structured, Nigeria can never achieve ORGANIC economy growth and prosperity.

How it Started: Well, in fairness, the country was on that road in the 1960s when regions harnesed their economic potentials in line with principle of comparative advantage.

How it went: Unfortunately, crude oil happened and Nigeria became 'artificially' rich overnight. Then, the military entry into politics happened, regions were balkanised into states and things were turned upside down. Regional economic roadmaps were abandoned as military rulers and then politicians competed to loot oil earnings while our infrastructure decayed and diversification of the economy neglected.

The Result: Now, the country has gone full circle and has become poor once again. Fortunately, we still have numerous money-yielding untapped mineral resources, 'overdose' of agricultural land, enviable marine resources, intelligent human capital and massive internal market due to our population.

Way forward: Restructure! Restructure!! Restructure!!! The National Assembly should study how Switzerland and Canada are structured, adapt in line with local realities. To manage frictions, PHASE the restructuring with clear TIMELINES. Unleash the massive economic potentials in geopolitical zones and watch NIgeria prosper and become world economic power.

As it is right now, Nigerians are in trouble.

With rising negative economic indices, insecurity and crime will rise.

Nobody can afford to sleep with the eyes closed.

Keep eyes on immigration, thousands of poor West Africans pour into Nigeria daily adding to Nigeria’s poor, congesting places like Lagos and other cities in Nigeria. Nigeria is last port of call for many, nothing to loose, they add to the bottlenecked disgruntled waiting to erupt at some point in the future or whenever opportunity arises.

Nigeria’s leadership need to put Nigeria and Nigerians first and forget or postpone their greater Africa motivations, don’t spent that money on Train line to Niger Republic, spend it linking Nigeria.

Restructure. Restructure. Restructure.
Not just systemic restructuring, but also a restructuring of our values and our minds.

Even if we restructure and people like Buhari have more chance of becoming leaders than a Peter obi or a Fela durotoye, poverty will remain.

It is People that change countries.
The right system will only make it easier.

Even as bad as Nigerian unitary system is, if we had the right people in place, it would have worked.

China is centrally controlled, and it is developing faster than any place on Earth.

People like Buhari, tinubu, kalu and atiku should not have the greatest chance of leadership in any progressive system.

That is the only time we can proudly say we have restructured.

Otherwise nothing much has changed.

God will help us when we determine to help ourselves, the fulanis are tactically spreading the same poverty they used to subdue the north, instead of us to find a solution to free ourselves from it, we decided to go down on our knees and wait for them to come decimate us all.

To be forewarned is to be forearm. Nigerians brace yourself and prepare for the difficult times ahead. The current government that thinks banning Cryptocurrency and Twitter is the way to fight insecurity, doesn't have a clue about solving the problem of insecurity in the country.
And you think they don't know what they are doing? This poverty they are spreading is intentional they used it against the hausas and the north it worked, now they are trying to replicate it all over Nigeria. Buhari and fulanis know what they are doing.

God bless you in multiple folds..

I keep saying it, Nigeria system is designed to continually subject 80% of Nigerians in abject poverty so the oppressors can continue to maintain the status quo.

The fact that southern youths are being liberated financially through crypto, online businesses etc is a threat to them. So they have to do everything it takes to subject masses to poverty.

The have succeeded in putting the majority of northerners in abject poverty, now it has to spread to the south.

Only the wise can see hand writing clearly written on the wall
