I just took jamb this year and scored average(280) and I'm confused on which course to choose between computer science and engineering. I plan on becoming a software engineer (not just a programmer), but the issue is that I don know which one to choose between the two. Although I chose computer engineering in my jamb form; I'm thinking of changing to computer science. The issue I have with computer science is that I'll stop doing mathematics at around 200 level or so and I'm very good at Mathematics and I can't imagine me not doing mathematics again. That's the cause of my indecision as to which to choose from. I like Mathematics a lot and don't want to stop doing it. Can you give me a honest piece of advice of which to choose from the two? I would say you should go for computer science. I don't know much about computer engineering but most software engineers studied computer science. I think computer engineering deals more with the hardware parts of computer. So you'd be borrowing courses from EE dept. As a computer scientist, you'd surely do a lot of mathematics, even if you won't, who cares about what you love? Many of us are in predicament today because we studied for passion rather than money. Follow money, when you have enough of it, you can go after passion. 2 Likes |

Most Nigerian Universities you'll take Mathematics courses from 100L up to 300L, even 400L in some. That's by the way, now to your question: I'll advise you go for Computer Science as it more aligns with your desire to become a software engineer than Computer Engineering. Computer Engineering is just Electrical Electronics Engineering disguised as computer engineering in my school, and in many other Universities in Nigeria.
