There has been speculations about some rather strange and ill planned clauses in an exposed draft of the electoral amendment bill.
News from certain quarters has it that section 50 of the said draft is proposing that INEC would no longer be allowed to transmit results electronically.
This warrants more closer look, this is what most political observer has called an attempt to hijack the electoral process in anticipation of the 2023 elections.
While there are issues of campaign finance and the contention on the number of days which INEC has to review and ratify election results, I think the most important of the issues is the transmission of results electronically.
Nigeria has made what I call incremental headway in running elections to be at least free and transparent, this should not be another stunt by the FG to draw te nation back and sabotage the 2023 elections from the onset.
