Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Thursday, said that the fight against corruption in Nigeria requires all hands to be on the deck for it to be won.

Bawa also expressed optimism that Nigeria would get out of its present predicament, occasioned by corruption.

The EFCC boss stated this during an anti-corruption sensitisation at Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.

Bawa, represented by the Head, Public Affairs unit of Ilorin Zonal Office of EFCC, Ayodele Babatunde, said that other forms of crimes, such as kidnapping, armed robbery and cybercrime, also contributed to the country’s problems.

He said that once Nigerians, both in the private and public sectors, embraced the culture of accountability, service, hard work and national pride, things would be better for the country.

“The anti-corruption crusade was part of the preventive measures by the commission to sensitise Nigerians on the ills of corruption and win public support for the fight,” he said.

Bawa, whose address centred on: “EFCC and the Role of the Youth in Curbing Cybercrime,” bemoaned the effects of drug abuse and internet fraud.

Bawa urged Nigerians to ensure that the love of the country was paramount in their heart, especially while discharging their duties.

According to him, only a patriotic mind will have the capacity to resist and fight corruption in his/her sphere of influence.

“EFCC believes that the fight against corruption requires all hands to be on the deck for it to be won.

“Therefore, it is within your powers to secure a corruption-free system for Nigeria, if you so desire.

“I will urge you to take up this challenge today as we work together to take Nigeria to greater heights,” the EFCC chairman said.

He noted that the failure of Nigerians to stop corruption at the initial stage had made the country to be struggling with its debilitating pain.

“As consequences of our lack of proactive response, we are now burdened by a dwindling economy, infrastructure problem, ineffective health system, problematic academic system, unemployment and insecurity,” he said.

After the initial gragra this mumu boy is seeing realities on ground. The last time he voiced his life was in danger from some corrupt personalities now he wants all hands on deck to fight corruption. Go for a 3months tutorial on how to fight corruption from Ribadu.

Initially when the mannequin at Aso villa resumed office we all put our hands on deck to fight corruption, but when we saw he's nepotic and bent on his fulanization agenda over one Nigeria, we stated taking of our hands off the deck one after the other. A corrupt head can never spearhead a fight against corruption.

Like Niyola sang, Nigerians spoilt Nigeria and we must join hands to fight corruption and chase away corruption

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh0mK1EbWlM

I completely agree with him and Niyola, nothing is wrong with Nigeria's land, air or water, it is Nigerians who will fix Nigeria. May God bless Nigeria.

Bawa all these won't really help. Just adopt China's zero tolerance for corruption and see it die in Nigeria.

Get ethnic nepotism out of Nigeria by voting out Northern politicians and see that jobs are only gained on merit..

That would eliminate corruption in no time...

Corruption is in 90% of Nigerians DNA.. It has been in existence since pre-indepence. I personally feel at this point, it is only the China option that can work in Nigeria but we know that Will never happen. As long as we don't have strong institutions and only have strong men, the issue will persist till eternity. The saga continues...

It is unfortunate that corruption has been limited to financial crimes in Nigeria.
Until the word corruption is defined in it's broader sense and tackled from the base, no efforts that are put into reducing it dramatically will yield any appreciable result.
Corruption is moral breakdown of which financial crime is just one of it's manifestations.
Unmerited promotion of a worker above his colleagues is corruption. Any form of abuse is corruption.
Until we improve on our moral uprightness in Nigeria, the songs will remain the same.
