Two University students were jailed on Friday by a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, for offences bordering on cybercrime and romance scam.

The convicts are final year students of Ekiti State University, EKSU, Ado Ekiti, Adeyemi Kehinde and 21-year-old student of Kwara State University, KWASU, Malete, Oladosun Olakunmi Olamilekan, who were convicted to various jail terms.

They were arraigned on separate charges on Friday by the Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Adeyemi, alias Queen Elizabeth, was charged on one count, while Oladosun was arraigned on three counts by the anti-graft agency before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye.

The two defendants in their separate pleas, pleaded guilty to the charges against them.

Upon their pleas, the prosecuting counsel, Sesan Ola, reviewed the facts of the cases through Lamidi Olarenwaju and Enoch Onyedikachi, who testified against the two convicts.

The two witnesses who are operatives of the commission, told the court how intelligence reports led to the arrest of the convicts at the Ilorin International Airport.

They tendered several fraudulent messages printed from their email addresses, the confessional statements of the defendants and the iPhones used as instruments of the crime, which were admitted in evidence by the court.

In his judgement, Justice Sikiru Oyinloye, said the court was convinced that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, going by the plea of guilt entered by the defendants, and the unchallenged evidence of the prosecution.

The judge, thereafter, pronounced Adeyemi guilty and sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of N100,000 fine while ordering the forfeiture of his iPhone to the Federal government.

In the case of Oladosun, he was sentenced to one year imprisonment on counts one and two, which will run concurrently or a fine of N100,000 each on the two counts.

On count three, Justice Oyinloye, only ordered Oladosun to pay a fine of N20,000 with no custodial sentence.

Additionally, the court also ordered the forfeiture of a N209,000 draft raised in Oladosun’s name and his iPhone to the Federal government.

The charge sheet of Adeyemi Kehinde, indicated that in February 2020, in Ilorin, he dishonestly involved one Miller, a white man to send him card worth 400 US dollars, when he knowingly pretended to be a white lady called Queen Elizabeth Toha, who was in love with him, a representation he knew to be false as contained in his Google voice and Google Hangout linked to his Gmail account, queentoha18@gmail.com, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Penal code of Northern Nigeria.

On Oladosun Olamilekan, (Joan Davis), he allegedly in March 2018, in Ilorin did cheat by personation when he pretended to be one Mike Storey, a white male with Gmail account mikestorey948@gmail.com and fraudulently deceived one Vicki Baldwin to send 300 US dollars worth of iTunes gift card and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 321 of the Penal code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Penal code.

Trust me the up coming generation will be very dangerous...
If the government refuse to make d country work, they should jejely separate.. Because a time will come where even the police man will be looking for security.. I hope it won't get to that extent.

When will "He f sisi" start sending politicians that steals billions to jail? The real thieves are guarded by police escort while the petty ones are sent to jail.
Meanwhile why always from south. Many abokis re involved in cybercrime. Why not start sending them to jail too

These boys be working for FG.
How is this really corruption fighting?

IPhones dropped and in most cases cars too ain't given back to the victims. They are sold off and some are used by these same set of people arresting, judging and sentencing them. So how is this about serving justice again or fighting crime when the initial victims never get back what was theirs?

They should just let these boys be as there isn't any difference between them and the boys.

Although intentionally omitted from the article, I don't need a soothsayer to tell me they caught these guys by illegally going through their phones. If not, how big an offence is this $300 iTunes card scam that the unprofessional Nigerian police will leave thieving politicians and be polluting our news space with this jargon?

Scamming should have death penalty as punishment or at least, 25 year jail term and a million Dollar bail. Failure to do this, the younger generation will ALL go into fraud.

Currently, Nigerians believe if you're not into Yahoo, you're not smart. They adulate and respect people who are into it.

This has become a national pandemic and only harsh punishment can solve it.

100,000 and 20k bail? This prosecution is a joke. Any low budget yahoo boy will bail himself in no time.

How do these yahoo boys cash out? Even after more than a decade that Olu Maintain popularized yahoo in his song yahoozee, with the alarming number of internet fraudsters these guys still cash out.............. How? From whom?

When we are ready to fight cyber crime in this country, we'll impose serious penalty for those found guilty.

All these one year or 100,000 fine would only encourage them more since the sentence is easy and affordable.

We also need to focus on the head of the snake, the big sharks who are into 'wire wire' and have successfully diversified and washed the I'll gotten wealth into legitimate source of incomes.

When they are gone, the tails which are the iTunes guys like these two young boys would be gone naturally.
Most of them can't receive funds from abroad without the resource and connection of the big sharks.
