As long as the universe can be reduced to fundamental particles and their interactions then you are wrong. The mind is made of neurons. Neurons are made of (organic) molecules, molecules are made of leptons and hadrons(electrons, protons and neutrons). Electron/nuclei interactions are mediated by the electromagnetic force. Neutron/Proton consists of quarks and inter-quark interactions are mediated by the strong force. This whole complex is described(tentatively) by the standard model of particle physic. So you see, everything experienced and everything that **can** be experienced can be reduced(tentatively) to particles and interactions, which are **tentatively** described by the standard model of particle physics. I use the qualification "tentatively" because even the standard model is demonstrably incomplete. Why so? Because it is built with the assumption that gravitation(as described by the general theory of relativity by Albert Einstein) does not exist. The reason that this is so is at least 2-fold. 1) The standard model without any account of gravity can describe with unprecedented accuracy the results of all know high energy particle experiment. 2) A comprehensive theory that accounts for both quantum physics and gravity is a puzzle that has eluded at least five generations of some of the most powerful minds in physics, but we yet forge ahead driven by the hope that one day, that this "mother of all theories", a "theory of everything" will eventually be obtained, and at such a time, everything and anything, including your music, consciousness and such will be reduced to nothing more than particles and interactions. Infinite variety of manifestations, one physical law. God is truly great indeed!!

You sound unhinged.
Have you ever conducted , supervised or recorded the supervision of the "Reduction of the universe to fundamental particles and their interactions."

Next you claim that God is truly great? Which God? from where how?

You say the mind is made up of neurons? Have you arrived at a definition of the mind that allows you to say it is made of neurons?

Honestly guy you need help

Hello, who says you must be a teacher as a Physics graduate...lie. I graduated from he dept of Physics of University of Ibadan. I even had an MSc with same Uni. Presently, I am a strong hand in the ICT Industry with specialty on IBM Infrastructures and Solutions. My Physics background really pave this way for me. It really prepared me for this. As a Physics student back then, I had always know I would end up becoming an IT Specialist. Bros., you have a great future before you as a Physics Student. Enjoy what you are doing and trust God to lead you after your first degree. Cheers

A Physics graduate ended up in IT. That your course, Physics didn't give you that opportunity but only comes in handy. No confuse us.

[quote author=inyangd4 post=103621912]Physic is not useless, Bro.

That it didn't favour some people doesn't mean yours will be the same.

Physic is basis for all engineering.
In Nigeria, You'll find opportunities in solar industries, engineering services ( this is very broad!)

I studied chemistry but work as an engineer today. If I were to go back to undergraduate for a science degree, I'd rather do physic ( but no regret)[/quo

Can you elaborate this sir: 'you study chemistry and you work as an engineer'
People will like to know about the journey and your wealth of experience.

no course is useless, and no course is that useful, as long as Nigeria is concerned, going to school is to have that degree

I don't thinks if there is any useless course to study in the world especially in this era. All you need is composure during and after graduation. I remembered when i offered an admission to study Bsc Library and Information Science, i felt humiliated and depressed and most of my family members rejected it. I later accepted it but i am currently working with one of the juicy FG agency and in fact I'm one of those managing the IT in my organization. Just devote, concentrate and put a lot of determination.

Which makes you more dangerous because you know the law but decided to break it.

Whoever told you a professor is above the law in Nigeria. You know nothing about the UK and their stringent laws on professional courses.

You and your fellow criminal accomplices will get your day in court when they finally arrest you.
You don't know me and you have tagged me a criminal. You were the one that brought Nigeria into this not me. Let me tease you a little, you don't have to study engineering in your first degree to be an engineer. Take that for a Nigeria registered and UK chartered engineer.

"Have you ever conducted , supervised or recorded the supervision of the "Reduction of the universe to fundamental particles and their interactions."

All ponderable matter are made of fundamental particles. This is now a matter of fact.

"You say the mind is made up of neurons? Have you arrived at a definition of the mind that allows you to say it is made of neurons?"

The brain is made of neurons. The emergent property of the interaction between massive amounts of neurons is what is often termed "mind".

"Next you claim that God is truly great? Which God? from where how?"

I use the word "God" in a non-religious context. Replace "God" with "Nature" if religious suggestions cause unfounded conflict with sensibilities.

A physics degree provides all the needed background to become an Engineer, if self determined, a physics graduate can become a registered engineer.

Forget about the stupid rules in Nigeria.

Ok ooo.. I hear you. This one doesn't know that things are more stringent outside Nigeria.

They will sew prison cloth for you.

I studied Physics Electronics from a prestigious university in the North Central, Nigeria, but presently in to Building/Interior Design and most of my mates are working as a classroom teachers or factory workers; my dear.... Study a professional course.

Most people from the North are naturally ignorant, so I'm not surprised they don't know the benefits of being a Physics graduate. That said, there's no prestigious university in North Central Nigeria.

Come to Abuja and see why I am so pained.. I am pained when I see people dying from activities of fake engineers.
People die from collapse buildings due to fake engineers.
People die after being electrocuted due to fake engineers
Houses get consumed by fire due to fake engineers.
Bros, the list is endless.

The laws guiding engineering practice were put in place after careful consideration by professionals and experts. The laws were put in place for the safety of everybody.

I am only trying to save the OP from future troubles that he may be getting himself into due to bad advice from people like you.

The truth remains that in Nigeria, there is no value for scientific research and development, hence the reason it seems Physics graduates don't get value for the time spent in studying. I studied physics for the special passion I developed in my secondary where my teacher simplified it as a subject for us, but then, seeing that it would not make headway in Naija except for teaching opportunities, I chose to have it as a side stuff and focused on Business for improvement of life.

This kind of opportunity is rare. Two, no one knows how connected you are or how deep your pocket is.
Studying many courses in Nigeria is like wasting of time, simple.

You're wrong Sir. I lost my banking job while he was in his 4th year as under graduate in Unilag in 2015.

I shared my car on uber (I drove on Lagos streets to make ends meet) while he was struggling with his Masters degree at Unilag.

He secured the AXA job after his Masters degree.

Today, the story is different and it can only get better going forward.

Passion is key towards achieving one's goal in life.
Do your best and leave the rest unto God.

PS:
I am actively searching for job should there be opportunities around you.

You are free to study Physics and you won't regret you did, Just upgrade your self by studying more and taking some Certifications

This is so untrue and misleading. The guy heading my IT function made first class in physics. He worked with Accenture and later moved on to do Project Management. Today he is at the top echelon of my organization and in all modesty, we are not small.

Stop discouraging people. Encourage them and let them make the best of the opportunity they have.
