Omoslim26: The topic talked about ' numbers' of unemployed Nigerians. This has to do with population. In places where there are few people , the number of unemployed people will also be few. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by oyatz(m): 2:51pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
KILLTHECOWS: They are employed, being employed is not the same as office works or just about white collar jobs or even about being rich. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by oyatz(m): 2:55pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
KILLTHECOWS: The guy is correct. However you need to know that being employed is NOT the same thing as being rich. The people planting, harvesting and transporting carrots, water melon, tomatoes, groundnuts, sugarcanes, beans, onions, millets pepper and potatoes are all employed but may or may not be rich. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by Omoslim26: 2:58pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
oyatz: Where did you get such narrative from. It's all about job opportunities, job creation. You can have a glamorously populated enclave with nothing to show for it in terms of employment. |

post=103686977: The Channels TV news you qouted was about the same NBS statistics but it was for Q2 2020( April-June,2020) and it was about UNDER-EMPLOYMENT which isn't exactly the same thing as unemployment. 1 Like |

Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by oyatz(m): 3:07pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
Omoslim26: The topic is about the NUMBERS of unemployed Nigerians. 1) State A: Total population= 1000 Unemployed people= 200 2) State-B: Total population= 400 Unemployed people= 100. Question: Which of the two States above have a) the highest numbers of unemployed people? b) the highest unemployment rate? |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by oyatz(m): 3:09pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
Oshokalo: The topic is limited to the numbers of unemployed Nigerians in each State and no data on their villages was collated. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by rdokoye: 3:11pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
oyatz: Unemployment is highest where poverty is most prevalent. Nigerian statistics aren't taken seriously by anyone, and that's for good reason. Too much politics in everything, even something like this, data, which should be used to better the lives of the populace, is used as a tool to belittle portions of the country. So, supposedly, the most entrepreneurial people, Igbo people, are the most unemployed. That makes no sense whatsoever. So what are all these people complaining about Igbo people and their wealth, all across Nigeria, threatening to steal Igbo homes and businesses, because according to these stats, such things do not exist. 2 Likes |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by Omoslim26: 3:12pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
oyatz: Oga you are misappropriating this thread. It's not about how populated the state is, it's the state that has the highest number of jobless people. So in a nut shell they are not mindful of Borno having 10m people neither are they about IMO having 6m people. They are saying there are more people without jobs in IMO than in Borno. Do you agree with this??. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by rdokoye: 3:12pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
oyatz: Then why isn't Kano, the most populated state there? Northern Nigeria is one of the poorest regions on earth, yet, everyone has a job? That doesn't make sense. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by oyatz(m): 3:13pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
IGBOSON1: The problems with most Nairaland commentators about Statistics is that they want the Statistics to reflect their preconceived notions and assumptions (largely fueled by tribal bigotry) by bringing in extraneous issues totally different from what the Statistics really measure or set out to measure. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by Omoslim26: 3:15pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
oyatz: In plain words, they are saying IMO has 500k jobless people, while Borno has 200k jobless people. IMO State is in the Top ten most productive states in Nigeria so they should have more job creation than a terror savaged Borno. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by oyatz(m): 3:17pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
rdokoye: Again, the context is different. The statistics is NOT measuring wealth but the NUMBERS of people unemployed. I think you first need to ask 'what exactly do them mean by 'unemployed'? You need to read and understand what's the case definition of 'unemployed' Nigerian. |
Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by oyatz(m): 3:35pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
Omoslim26: It depends on the research methodology. For instance ,if the definition of unemployed is 'self identification' like asking in a questionnaire ' do you consider yourself employed'? Some (educated) people in I'm State may tick 'unemployed' because they are yet to get their desired jobs in NNPC, Glo, Zenith Bank even though they are currently helping their brothers to sell goods in the Markets with at least #50K allowance per month. However in rural Borno where most people don't even consider themselves eligible for white collar jobs, they will say they are employed even if they are actually 'mai suya', Keke drivers, Mai Ruwa, Ginger farmers etc. 2 Likes |

Re: 10 States With The Highest Number Of Unemployed Nigerians by Shattuck(m): 8:03pm On Jul 14, 2021 |
Tension532:the reason most northern states are not on the list is because they aren't skilled/ uneducated, you can't add the massive uneducated population among the unemployed, this list is probably for graduates who can't find placement. |
