French Ligue 1 Giant PSG sent the World of football into a frenzy and they also distorted the transfer Market when they triggered the release clause of Barcelona Star Neymar Jr in 2017. Before Neymar Jr was Signed by Paris Saint Germain, Paul Pogba was the most expensive Signing in the history of football. Manchester United paid about £93million to Juventus in 2016 to sign the Frenchman.
One summer later, PSG expressed their interest in Neymar and they did a thorough follow-up when they completed the Signing of the Brazilian Winger. PSG paid more than the double of what Manchester United paid to Juventus to sign Paul Pogba.
The success of a particular club in the European League is defined by how well the team performed in a particular season. For some club, they could claim that they had a successful season because they missed the relegation spot. Others would claim that they had a successful season if they managed to qualify for the Europa League. The elite clubs measure their success by the number of trophies they won in a season.
For PSG, they had a bigger ambition. Winning the French Ligue 1 was not a big deal for the club. They have been winning the title back-to-back since 2012. The only time they didn't win it was in 2017 and last season. The reason behind their distortion of the transfer market was apparent, they wanted to win the UEFA Champions League.
Just in case paying £198million to Barcelona to sign Neymar Jr wasn't going to be enough, the Ligue 1 Giant also signed Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco the same summer. Monaco cashed out a hefty sum on their Youngster as PSG paid £165million.
In total, they spent £363million in 2017, an equivalent of €402million, on Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe. 4 years after the club signed the first and second most expensive players in history, they are still chasing after the UEFA Champions League title.
Manchester United are also on the same path like PSG. The only difference is that the Red Devils are spending lesser than the Parisian. Since Paul Pogba joined the Red Devils in 2016, the only major Trophy he has won is the Europa league. He's yet to win the UEFA Champions League title and he has no English premier league title.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has successfully brought Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford. Collectively, Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba cost Manchester United £166million. That's a lot of money that should guarantee an instant results like winning the English premier league Trophy.

Technically they didn't spend that amount in one season, FFP will not allow it.
Rather they bought Neymar and loaned mbappe from Monaco for one season before buying him the next season.

This is information in the public domain, you can easily find it.
They signed him on loan first before permanently signing him the next summer.

its called FOOTBALL!!
look at Juve and their €375M gamble (that also failed) on CR7 for 4 yrs, same CR7 that cost 25% of the entire Juve roster's salary. no be that same chelsea that did the same back in the days (when Russian money came to their books) how long did it take them before they could even win any worthy trophy?
