FIFA has begun the first phase of tests to change some rules that would change the game of football.

Among the four new proposals, which have already been tested in the Future Cup, are the possibility of unlimited
substitutions and throw-ins with the foot, as well as reducing time halves from 45 minutes to 30 minutes.

The four new proposals include the possibility of changing the duration of matches, which would be reduced from two 45-minute halves to 30minutes , but with the novelty that the clock would stop with each interruption, a measure that is
already in practice in other sports such as basketball and futsal and which would guarantee an effective half hour of play.

In addition, FIFA wants to move from the five changes that can be made per game at the moment due to COVID-19 to unlimited substitutions, which would allow the coach more opportunities to modify his squad.

The international body is also testing the possibility of throw-ins with the foot instead of the hands, which would create more dangerous situations as balls could be sent directly into the opponent's penalty area.

Finally, FIFA wants to punish a yellow card with a temporary suspension of five minutes , which would mean that the cautioned player would have to remain on the sideline for that time and would leave his team outnumbered.

Once the tournament for under-19s, which is also being contested by PSV and Brugge , has concluded, FIFA will evaluate the impact of these four changes on the tournament and will consider whether to submit any of them to the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which is the body that sets the rules of the game worldwide.
