Not really, my brother.

Buhari actually is too ignorant of Economic Management Processes and Procedures.

Understand that it takes more than common sense to run a corporation, so handing over a country to a man who has no basic knowledge of Political Economics was a terrible idea.

For instance, such a meeting as this, Buhari or at least the Ministers of Finance and those over seeing the Economy are supposed to be there in person to brainstorm with the private sector players and advisory organizations but they were totally absent and ofcourse sent in their 'messengers' to represent them them.

Read their Response again:

“So, there are a lot of things, and I can only assure you that that is what we are doing. We have the medium-term development agenda, which we are in the process of implementing from 2021 to 2025. And within the five years, a lot of issues will be taken into consideration.”

On the issue of macroeconomic stability, the minister said, “Right now, the economy is weak, growth is fragile, but we are hoping growth will improve as we begin to look at the policies that we have on ground and do policy reforms to attract both local and foreign investments.”

They said nothing, and are implementing what? Is there any National Vision now and a roadmap on how to get there?

We have manufactured banditry, Secessionism, kidnapping, cybercrimes, prostitution etc which are by-products of poverty, illiteracy and drugs and the Police, Soldiers, EFCC, Customs are on a killing spree of those who go into these vices cos of nationally manufactured conditions.

Nigeria will die soon. And the more EV productions are accelerated and Fossil fuel stigmatized, the more the dead of Nigeria becomes faster.

Something or someone needs to hijack the system and put a brain in that box.

Revenue comes mainly from taxes. Nigeria government needs to spread the tax net and plug all holes.
And taxes are paid by the working class and businesses.. With high unemployment rates and unfavorable govt policies for profitable business environment, how can you pay taxes?

Crime is the natural way to go in any country with these indices. It has nothing to do with Nigerians as a people, but a reality for every failing nation applying similar principles as Nigeria does at this moment.

This is an indication that Nigerians don't pay tax but want govt to provide paradise and utopia out of thin air. Smaller African countries in terms of GDP and population raise revenue of over $100bn out of their economy to use for public works, education and healthcare investment.

But Nigeria raise mere $30bn and ignorant Nigerians want to have world class everything out of that. Funds that cannot give a country like USA adequate fire fighting services.

South Africa will invest our entire budget on education and still have another $100bn left for other things. Yet they still have hungry looters and poorly educated people.

We are doing ourselves bad if we don't create a working tax system, age of excess oil funds is over
zombie is a every difficult job to handle I swear, so the problem now is about Nigeria as people? Is no longer about the leaders? That have continued to mismanaged our resources, Jonathan was clueless that was the reason things was working. Today is about the poor masses.

This is a multi faceted problem...

1. Mismatch of ways and means with responsibilities

2. Poor tax generation

There are two potential issues here -

Either the Govt is not converting economic activity into Govt Revenue via taxes

OR

Rebasing of GDP during NOIs tenure was flawed, overstating our GDP

I think it's a combination of both.

The Gross Domestic product is the monetary value of total goods and services produce in an economy within a given period. If the revenue accruing to the government is the lowest in the world then it means there is income loss .it may be either through maladministration, mismanagement of material, human and economic resources, natural disaster, internal and external war and most significantly corruption.
In reality Nigeria revenue could not have done better if all these variables are currently in forces against the GDP.
We have a clueless president who is clouded by ethnic sentiments. He would rather have all his kinsmen in all strategic position of the economy without considering competence and federal character principle as provided for in our constitution.
GDP measurement is one of the barometers that can be used to gauge how an economy is fairing. A good economic management team will enhancing output and invariably increase standard of living if the productivity are prudently managed.

Funnily enough, the government's finance people have been saying the same thing that the article is saying for a long time. And that includes Lie Mohammed.

They all know. But because the solution means taxing every one...and everyone..not just the 30% paying ....that's not politically popular.

tax from where, when we provide nearly everything for ourselves....its not done that way....am paying for light I don't see, paying vigilante to watch over the neighborhood because of poor security, coughing out 400k to drill borehole for portable water and so on a so forth. We should pay taxes so that the elite will have wives and concubines in every part of the country and world or pay taxes that will be used to fight boko haram that is supported by the northerners. Guy park well please
The problem is that you even pay tax without knowing it, in form of VAT.
But the tax net does not cover the informal sector where the real part of the Nigerian economy is.
Widening the tax net will bring a lot of revenue into government coffers.

I accept the fact that they will steal a lot of it but at the same time there will be more money for projects and they wouldn't have to borrow so much. That's the only solution to our economic problem. Nigeria is broke and things are about to worsen.
