The Political Beacon Call- Jega Decries APC And PDP by VGSocial: 1:43pm On Aug 03, 2021
The former INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, caused an uproar in the political space with his recent comments on the forthcoming 2023 General Election. According to him, the citizens should not vote PDP or APC to power in the forthcoming election. He likened the political parties to siamese twins on the issue of corruption in the country, and the nation will be better off electing a different party into power. He talked up is Peoples Redemption Party(PRP), a party to which he is a member.

His statement got backlashed from both APC and PDP, and also from some prominent political voices, such as the National President of the Middle Belt Forum(MBF), Dr Pogu who stated that:

"Prof Jega supervised the election of PDP and APC. So if they are siamese twins of corruption, it means he was involved. He wouldn't know that they are corrupt if he wasn't involved with them in the corruption. Unfortunately, Jega is only nailing himself"

Nigeria has 18 registered political parties, but the parties with the major stronghold are APC and PDP, with both parties getting the higher votes in elections. Most times, members of both political parties decamp and cross carpet frequently and almost comically. With these two parties competing for power, there's little to nothing left for other political parties to compete for.
