All the smart people in Nigeria and on nairaland do not have anything to say about the increasing cases and mortality yet o, they simply do not feel alarmed. Just let the government take actions to curb this new wave, and you'll see litters of critics and ideas. Covid still hitting hard around the world, let's not feel all is normal just because we are going about our normal businesses. Let's try and keep to guidelines. One life or two lives will seem insignificant until that one was your father, sibling, or spouse. Think about this. God help Nigeria

What wave? What exactly do they mean by cases?... people who test positive?...or people who are sick with the virus? If you are tested for malaria anti bodies ... would the result be positive or negative? If it is positive... does that mean you have contracted malaria and should be counted as another case? It is the Delta variant that is spreading .... how they know that?... why not the South African variant? Can any of the testing kits determine which variant was detected? This is not about being smart ... it is about those with common sense ... the common sense to chew before swallowing and those who choose to open their mouths wide and swallow whatever the FG and media pour down their throats.

This is about whipping up fear so that short sighted people will rush to get the vaccine.

With the rate of inexplicable deaths that have been recorded between 2020 and this year alone it is apparent that there is something lurking in the air sniffing life out of people at the slightest of opportunity, it's now common to hear he was sick for 2 or Max 3 days and he gave up the ghost, stay safe obey abide by the non pharmaceutical measures to avoid stories that touch.

First wave did you nothing, second wave did you nothing, it was not because you were too careful or you devotedly followed covid-19 protocol. You never had it, perhaps you don't even know who had it till no. Now they are talking about Delta variant. See ehn if by now you still pay great attention about the danger of covid-19 you are just ignorant about life. I just don't know what is just wrong with some of you.
Re: COVID-19 Update For August 10 2021 In Nigeria by ogascomax: 6:50am On Aug 11, 2021
CNN and some evil media stations are deceiving you guys. They are protest going on around the world against covid whatsoever, but as you see ehn, no TV stations are carrying out news about it. They are making you think that people are embracing vaccination. Go to YouTube and see massive protests around the world and stop all this stupidity about covid-19 debacle. Covid-19 was planned and all that was denied initially is now coming to light. Covid-19 was designed to control the world through vaccination and mask wearing is a symbol of been conquered.
Many of una go get sense wen it is too late.

COVID offers a very good excuse for poor countries with poor health care systems to blame COVID for the many premature deaths.

Have these poor countries got the money or the medical experts to actually test the dead and dying?

But because a ‘pandemic’ has been called, these poor countries are planning to vaccinate their populations just as rich countries are.

Perhaps people in poor countries are dying of complications from the jab which are then registered as ‘COVID” deaths, because money or effort can not be spent investigating that possibility?

I will answer your questions, hopefully you have an open mind.

Third wave or fourth wave irrelevant , the fact is that the no of covid infections is rising worldwide again including in Nigeria.

What exactly do they mean by cases?... people who test positive?...or people who are sick with the virus?
Anybody who test positive with or without clinical symptoms is a case. You can be positive without being sick.

If you are tested for malaria anti bodies ... would the result be positive or negative? If it is positive... does that mean you have contracted malaria and should be counted as another case?
There are different types of COVID tests ( PCR, Antigen and antibody tests etc.). Each of the test serve different purposes. PCR test is the gold standard, it can pick up an infection at the early stage of exposure. It is good for active infections ( potentially contagious) and indicate the viral load to measure the success of treatment . Antigen tests are fast and very cheap . You can get results in 10 mins but you cannot trust the results if it comes out negative as it can not pick up the disease at the very early stage. It is good for mass screening of a population . A negative result needs to be confirmed by PCR test. The antibody tests shows your previous exposure to the virus , it is used to measure the prevalence of the disease in a particular setting. It measures your immune response to the SARS COV 2 VIRUS. It is not a test to measure current infection.

To your next question ....It is the Delta variant that is spreading .... how they know that?why not the South African variant? Can any of the testing kits determine which variant was detected?
Genetic sequencing is the lab technique to know the variant . A positive sample can be sequenced by readily available kits for a particular variant or even new ones. It is not rocket science to know the variant that is spreading most.
A simpler technique to know the variant spreading is to take samples of the waste water from a particular setting and sequence it for the different variants. First , it shows when there is an outbreak even without testing the people and it also shows the variants.

I hope your questions are answered.
