No matter how you see Elon Musk, you cannot deny that the techs he is bringing to the market are worth our attention. His EVs are the most technically advanced; his rockets are flying to space and come back; his satellites will soon provide internet coverage all over the globe - the list may go on and on.

Yesterday, Tesla had its annual AI Day. Among other highlights, there was an outstanding one. Tesla is building a humanoid robot, the Tesla Bot, which it expects to bring to the market as early as 2022.
There are not many details yet, and I will try to cover everything we know. Elon Musk envisions a world where human routine like grocery shopping, "the work that people least like to do," can be taken over by humanoid robots like the Tesla Bot. The bot is 173 cm high (5 feet 8 inches), weighs 57 kg (125 pounds), can deadlift 68 kilograms (150 pounds), walk at 18 km per hour (5 mph), and has a screen for a head that displays important information.
"It is intended to be friendly, of course, and navigate a world built for humans," said Musk. "We are setting it such that at a mechanical and physical level, you can run away from it and most likely overpower it." It is a critical feature for all of us who are afraid of being beaten by a robot that has had enough, right?

The bot is a non-automotive robotic use case for the Tesla work on neural networks and its Dojo advanced supercomputer. Arguably, Tesla is the biggest robotics company because its cars are like robots on wheels. "With the Full Self-Driving computer, [ … ] which will keep evolving, and Dojo and all the neural nets recognizing the world, understanding how to navigate through the world, it kind of makes sense to put that on to a humanoid form," Musk said.
I think it is too early to be very excited and imagine buying a robot in a store and have it wash your dishes. Advanced robots are being around for decades (for example, Honda's Asimo), and still, there is a long way to go before a future in which physical work would be a choice.
