Napoli striker Osimhen receives first career red card in Serie A opener

The Super Eagles forward had a forgettable start to the campaign at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradonam

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was shown a straight red card in their Serie A opener against newly promoted Venezia on Sunday.

Osimhen was punished for a violent conduct on Daan Heymans in the 23rd minute.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Luciano Spalleti's men held their visitors to a goalless at halftime.

d sweetest part was seeing "Mr new challenge scoring a last minute goal, he ran off n pulled his shirt to celebrate, the referee gave him a yellow card for taking off his shirt only for VAR to chop off the goal for offside BT d yellow card still stood....I felt his pain shaa..

Napoli manager, Luciano Spalletti has warned Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen following his red card in their 2-0 win over Serie A newcomers, Venexia on Sunday.

Referee Gianluca Aureliano gave Osimhen the matching order in the 23rd minute at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Osimhen was adjudged to have shoved Venezia midfielder Daan Heymans in the face during a corner kick struggle.

“Osimhen’s expulsion? He has to be careful of his emotional reactions. He is a strong attacker and all the defenders will try to help themselves by limiting his physical exuberance,” Spalletti said according to ilnapolista.it.

“He will always have his hands on the defenders. He must be careful. The referee was very correct when he explained to me what he saw.”
