I attended a Google Primer Webinar On how to maximize your resume to land a job faster. I obtained the plates from the webinar. I will share them with you (accompanied with comments) and you will see how easy it can be to land your dream job faster than you ever imagined.

First, it starts from your mind. You must remove a lie from your mind. That lie says "there's no job". Big big lie.

There are jobs. As you are seeking a job, there are also employers looking for workers.

Place yourself in the position of an employer. Imagine that you own a company and you are looking for workers to help your company succeed. How would you go about it?

Your resume is a brief story about your life that you tell anyone you want to work with to enable them know how much you can make their work and life better.

This is to say that your resume is the most important way for a prospective employer to begin to know you (in terms of your background, how intelligent you are, how much people skill you have, how organized you are, etc). Therefore, project the very best of yourself in your resume and don't presume that your prospective employer will understand.

Make sure that your resume has no errors. One little error can cost you a big job.

Take note of the instructions on the plate below. Later on, we will talk more about optimizing and designing your resume in a way that no one can ever deny you a job.

The problem of EMPLOYMENT GAPS. One big problem job seekers have about employment gap is that they misunderstand what the phrase "employment history" or "job experience" means.

So, know this: Whatever has kept you busy and from which you acquired any job-relevant experience is a part of your job experience or employment history. So, don't hesitate to include it.

For instance, if you took out 6 months to teach yourself programming or visit some countries, you can include it as a part of your job experience. It even makes you stand out in the eyes of
prospective employers.

Use this to make yourself strongly relevant to your next employer. They will employ you only based on what they stand to gain from you. But, you're the one to CONVINCE them.

More on making yourself relevant enough to not only be hired but also to be valued highly by your next employer.

Keep it simple and short.

While optimizing your resume, don't use a one-size-fits-all approach as most job seekers do. To stand out among other candidates for the job, make your next employer feel special. Let your resume read as if it was made just for him/her.

For instance, if you are currently a teacher and you are applying for a marketing position, you can mention something about how your teaching skills can help you to sell the employer's product or service.

The objective section of your resume is an opportunity to market yourself to a particular employer as already said.

A general rule about being specific is to focus on your hard skills and particular experiences. State these in a way that would make most sense to your present prospective employer.

Your resume should have more than just a job history. Instead, it should have other things that might make someone to get interested in you.

Sometimes, fresh graduates have problems with stating their job experience. But that shouldn't be. As a fresh graduate, your education history is your job history.

You can also include things like your IT, youth service, internship, and other experiences.

The honors you have received (in sports, academics, etc) can also help to bolster up your resume. So, don't forget them.

Show how lively you are by stating your personal interests. For instance, if you play lawn tennis, an employer might like you because you'll get to be playing with him at weekends. It even helps you to bond more healthily with your employer.

Get the section for your employment history as organised as you possibly can.

Employers like to hear about the RESULTS you have achieved in the past, and not just about the jobs you did. So, think along this line by stating your past results in a way that makes those results relevant to the job position you are applying to.

You can also talk about how you achieved the results.

Quantifying your results makes them sound more real and authoritative.

Highlight your past projects in terms of the VALUE you stand to offer the employer.

These days, many employers conduct a background check on their next hire. So, while you customize your resume to suit each application, make sure your facts and figures are not contradicting themselves on- and offline.
