Anambra State Finally Joins Oil Producing States, To Benefit From 13% Derivation Fund
Anambra state has finally joined the league of Oil Producing States in Nigeria, as it will soon start to benefit from the thirteen percent Derivation fund.

This is sequel to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation And Fiscal Commission's approval of Governor Willie Obiano's request for due share of revenue accruing to the nation from oil and gas production activities in Anambra state.

According to the approval letter through its secretary, Mr M.B. Shehu, and addressed to Governor Obiano, the Commission, approved the attribution of eleven oil wells wholly to Anambra state. It also approved attribution of Anambra River One, Two, and Three oil wells, to be shared on fifty- fifty percent basis between Anambra and Kogi states, pending the final delineation of boundaries of the two states.

The eleven oil wells wholly attributed to Anambra state, are; Nzam-One oil well, Alo- One oil well, and Ogbu- One oil well. Others are Ameshi One, Two, Three and Four oil wells, as well as Enyie One, Two, Three, and Four oil wells.

Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission's approval was at its 139th plenary session, held on twenty seventh July, 2021. It said the 13 percent derivation will take effect when the said revenue from the operations of the said oil wells starts contributing into the federation account.

Point two seems to indicate kogi is also an oil producing state.

Why hasn't Anambra or kogi gone to the Supreme Court to settle this matter expediently? Conflicts between states are their original jurisdiction.

You talk like those areas want to return to igbo land. Are you aware there's a Constitutional process for areas of a state to succeed and join another state? Organize today and make it happen if you really believe what you're saying.

Chapter 1 part 2 section 8-2

An Act of the National Assembly for the purpose of boundary adjustment of any existing State shall only be passed if-

(a) a request for the boundary adjustment, supported by two-thirds majority of members (representing the area demanding and the area affected by the boundary adjustment) in each of the following, namely-

(i) the Senate and the House of Representatives,

(ii) the House of Assembly in respect of the area, and

(iii) the local government councils in respect of the area. is received by the National Assembly; and

(b) a proposal for the boundary adjustment is approved by -

(i) a simple majority of members of each House of the National Assembly, and

(ii) a simple majority of members of the House of Assembly in respect of the area concerned

Why do you only wish to cry about the past when you have an opportunity to correct the matter today? Dictators rule by fiat so you're comparing apples to oranges essentially. State creation requires consent of the rest of the states to accept. If they dont get it it won't happen. I honestly doubt any new state will be created for fiscal and electoral reasons.

Chapter 1 part 2 section 8-1

An Act of the National Assembly for the purpose of creating a new State shall only be passed if-

(a) a request, supported by at least two-thirds majority of members (representing the area demanding the creation of the new State) in each of the following, namely -

(i) the Senate and the House of Representatives,

(ii) the House of Assembly in respect of the area, and

(iii) the local government councils in respect of the area, is received by the National Assembly;

(b) a proposal for the creation of the State is thereafter approved in a referendum by at least two-thirds majority of the people of the area where the demand for creation of the State originated;

(c) the result of the referendum is then approved by a simple majority of all the States of the Federation supported by a simple majority of members of the Houses of Assembly; and

(d) the proposal is approved by a resolution passed by two-thirds majority of members of each House of the National Assembly.

So, if Kogi and Anambra will be sharing proceeds from well 1, 2 and 3, pending the final delineation of the boundary between the two states, is Kogi not an oil producing state in the interim? Comprehension shouldn’t be so difficult now. Smh!

I guess they are both waiting for the outcome of the final boundary delineation by NBC. The dissatisfied party will be the one to go to court.
