ASUU's 48 Hours Deadline: We Are Yet To Hear From Government - Osodeke by Gamer999: 10:03pm On Sep 02, 2021
The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has said 48 hours after the expiration of the ultimatum given the Federal Government, the union is yet to be contacted by the government.

Speaking in a chat with the Vanguard on Thursday, the union leader also said ASUU would soon take a decision on the next line of action. “We are yet to get any response from the government. This is two days after the deadline we gave them. We are still consulting and we are going to come out with our decision after the necessary meetings are held,” he said

Osodeke, however, refused to disclose when the national leadership of the union would call a National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting. It was gathered that the NEC meeting would hold this weekend, as some stakeholders feel the government can still pay the N40 billion revitalisation fund, which the government claims is trapped at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Faulting the claim, a member of NEC, who is also the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Branch Chairman, Prof. Moyosore Ajao, accused the government of needlessly passing the buck. “The CBN, the Ministry of Education are government agencies and how long would it take them to get the money paid? We suspended our strike on December 23 last year and almost nine months after nothing has been done.

“I hope they are not saying that it is ASUU members that would go to the CBN and twist their arms to get the money paid. It all boils down to the poor attention we give to education in the country,” he said.
Apart from the revitalization fund, the government is expected to mainstream the Earned Academic Allowances and implement the renegotiated agreement with ASUU.

Always seeking unnecessary attention.

With all the billions that has been pumped into education sector, how many scientific discoveries can ASUU boast of?

Useless set of greedy people....nobody is enjoying this govt... Tou should even thank God you are employed and enjoying a good salary....dont you pity those who are really doing the work and still underpaid come to think of teachers and state govt workers that suffer and get a lil amount as salary!

ASUU are stupid for making such demands.....Had it been Nigeria is working well then you can have reason to cry and go for strike but for u to do so at the moment we know you are selfish and ungrateful

This ASUU has been nothing but a parasitic pain in the academic butt.

They've completely ruined so many lives with their endless face off with government.

It seems they get a kick out of the confrontation.

All the previous billions released to them has not improved the quality of their tutelage; in fact, it's all gone to the dogs with the level of garbage they impart to hapless students.

They're still stuck in 1970 teaching nonsense. Imagine Fortran and Cobol and such old school programming languages still on our curriculums.

They still teach Henry Fayol instead of Jobs and Gates and Musk and Bezos, people who went completely against the supposed norm and became trailblazers.

They can't even innovate remote learning properly in these days of biblical maladies, including plagues and floods and earthquakes.

Our entire education system is stuck in a rut with these agricultural idiots.

Government should just ignore these egotistic assholes and be done with it.
