Basic problem is that the budget for health is not enough to cater for the demands of JOHESU and NARD.

Our total budget is $33.66 billion. That seems like a lot of money, until you realise that the budget for health in first world countries is more than $100 billion...ie far more than our total budget. Health gets about 3 billion dollars here.

Nigeria is not a rich nation. This is not an excuse. The problem is changing our economic system requires things like taxing the informal sector more aggressively, removing subsidies, and also fighitng corruption at all levels.

All these are not popular. Subsidies removal means higher prices for power and petrol...and higher prices for everything as a result. Taxing the informal sector would bring protests. Fighting corruption is not popular at all.

Diversifying the economy...ie finding more raw materails to sell...is an idea...but it won't earn us enough money. We don't control the prices...and the prices are never at sustainable levels.

So, loans are the only way forward.

All in all, Nigeria is not making enough money for our needs. Either we solve this problem...or strikes are going to continue. Whoever is in charge.

No, the best way to save the health, educaiton, economic, security sectors of Nigeria is to fund them well.

And the best way to fund them well is to

1.Tax the 70% of the populaiton who is taxable but don't pay tax

2.Change the basis of our economy from dependence on raw materails whose prices never favour us to a manufacturing society

3.Stop voting for the same old corrupt people, be it APC or PDP. Vote out APC in 2023 FOR non-performance.

4.Stop throwing away trillions on subsidies that don't help most people....and prevent investment and growth of the power and petroleum sector.

Do the above, and we may eventually get into a position where we can discuss secession, separation peacefully. Like the Czechs and Slovaks did....

Even if you split Nigeria...all the new countries would face EXACTLY the same issues i have outlined above. And all of them will commence battles for control of the oil. There will be war and fighting. And the rulers would be the same old corrupt political elite.
You are a northerner and i understand what influence your sentiment and perspectives on this matter. This is a region that was at the same level of development with the Asian tigers when it was under regional arrangements of western region building everything first in sub Sahara Africa.

A northerner won't call for

1.Taxing the informal sector...which means taxing herdsmen, taxing hawkers and farmers in the North, and also taxing almjiri schools...and beggers too...

2.Remvoing oil subsidy...because it means that fuel would cost more in the North than it does in the South

3.Removing power subsidies...because power would be expensive in all parts of the North.

4.And oil subsidy removal means food too becomes expensive for the north

5.By the way diversifying the economy means that everyone won't rely on the SOuth's oil...and yes, I come from an oil producing state. If we followed my suggestions, them parasites will leave our oil alone...and we can get 100% resource control.

You are calling me a Northerner because you have no response to my argument and because you missed the part where I state that we could become rich enough so that peaceful separation is a easy thing...and because you voted Buhari for the N40 petrol. And because you don't want to face reality.

Besides, saying Nigeria is not rich enough is not a lie. It is the truth...and it also means calling the Buhari government useless, since they havint done anything to make us wealthy..which is what they were voted for, and which they have failed at.

By the way, I am not from the North, and despise PDP AND APC in equal measure.

Now do you want to take back your abuse, bigot?

South west is underdeveloped because you guys vote for corrupt people...PDP OR APC. Same goes for the other regions of the country...North inclusive.

Also, the main business in the SOuth West is buying and selling of imported stuff...not making them.

Then you are shouting developmentand many of you don't want to pay your power bills or pay the market price for petrol...and you expect development.? You all rely on Niger delta oil and you expect development.

Keep on joking. The thing is, any nation coming from Nigeria will be like Nigeria and most African nations. Because in abusing me you have refused to get my point...strong nations export industrial goods.

Nigeria is not dead. Nigeria would never die. And yes, I don';t like Buhari and APC too

Nigeria is suffering because we use the wrong economic model. We sell raw materials for $20 billion, and import things worth 30 billion...and go into debt as a result.

Meanwhile the industrialised nations buy our raw materials...and make producits worth $100 billion...and sell part of it to us for $30 billion

And we also spend billions on subsidies, which make it unproftable for refining of oil, and for production of power...because we have to help the poor...by tilitng the country into more and more debt.

We set up businesses to sell imported stuff instead of using our education to make them stuff.

We suppoort people who steal from the country...from the men and women at the top to the people who don't pay their power bills at the bottom

And you think that if we split the country, the problems will go away? When the same things happen at state and LG level?

You complain about Buhari...yet Buhari could only come from a nation of Buharis...which is what we all are.

Better wake up and smell the flowers.

If we split this country...there will be war . Endless war for resources and control of tribes, and so on. There is no African country that has peacefully split.
what you failed to understand is that if we split the country, it will be easier to hold your leaders accountable, nobody will now talk about tribe or religion!!! because that's our major problems now!!!

What stops you from holding your leaders accountable now?

The problem is you guys think that holding your leaders accountable involves saying 'buhari is a failure' (not that he isn't, he actually is a failure).

But do you know who your governors and LG chairmen are?

If you cannot hold them accountable...in addition to Aso Rock...you think things will change in the new country you are claiming?

The thing is, and this is one thing I have noticed...many of the people criticisng Buhari now, kept quiet when GEJ was messing up, likewise, many of the people who were blasting GEJ are now big time Buhari supporters..and parisesingers.

You guys see politics and governance as a means to chop. Not as a means to develop. You want new countries because you want to 'threaten the North' in the same way the North used sharia and islminsim to threaten the South.

All for your pocket.

You don't have to wait till you get ODUDUWA or Biafra republic before you question what your LG OR GOVERNOR is doing about your money. So start doing that now. Don't complain to me. I'm not in government or a Northerner.

Besides, how does new country solve the problem of paying health workers a decent salary? I know you guys...you will fight over oil money to fund your lifestyles. And in years, your new countries would be in debt.

No, the best way to save the health, educaiton, economic, security sectors of Nigeria is to fund them well.

Not true. You don't throw money at every problem. That's how Nigeria has been doing it since time immemorial. How far?

And the best way to fund them well is to

1.Tax the 70% of the populaiton who is taxable but don't pay tax

Wrong. Those that pay tax, what have the politicians done with the tax? How did you arrive at the 70% mark? Do you work with population census department or something? And if what you mean is that majority don't pay tax, then you'd have to understand that first of all, majority don't have work that is taxable. How do you tax a roadside vulcanizer? How do you tax the woman that's selling pepper in the market? How do you tax the roadside hawker? How do you tax the barber? You haven't created an enabling environment for small scale businesses to thrive, you want to tax them? Most of these people that you say fall under the "70%" taxable-but-not-being taxed range provide their own electricity, water and security. They are their own local government. So, how justified are you in taxing them.

It's a lazy government that thinks taxing 100% of the populace is the best way to increase revenue. Maybe you aren't aware that there's no taxation in Dubai. And yet Nigeria and Dubai are both oil producing.

So, if you like, tax even unborn children, your crooked politicians will make sure the Nigerian factor, corruption makes nonsense of the tax you pay.

2.Change the basis of our economy from dependence on raw materails whose prices never favour us to a manufacturing society

Even when crude oil was selling at maximum price of $120/barrel your government didn't have the presence of mind to diversify the economy. Is it now then that the crude oil is almost useless and the federal government is borrowing to pay salaries that the economy will be diversified? Puhleeezze...

3.Stop voting for the same old corrupt people, be it APC or PDP. Vote out APC in 2023 FOR non-performance.

1.) Quite interesting that you think a change of personnel is all that's needed to get good leadership in Nigeria. I mean after all we've gone through?

If you like, bring an archangel from heaven to come and run the Nigerian systems, it will fail miserably. If you like vote out PDP and APC and vote in Heaven's Democratic party, in 4 years time, Nigeria will be worse off, guaranteed!

Nigeria was never created to be anything other than a cash cow for a few people. That's all.

At first, the few people were the colonialists. Then, the few people included the politicians and their families. Now, the few people have included the Fulani clan. The true owners of Nigeria. Maybe you aren't aware there was a pact between the Brits and Uthman Dan Fodio.

2.) Maybe you should listen to the interview with cmdr Kunle Olawunmi again. The CIA chooses our leaders around this part of the world. Your votes don't count.

4.Stop throwing away trillions on subsidies that don't help most people....and prevent investment and growth of the power and petroleum sector.

Yeah, that's never happening. It hasn't happened in the last 50 years, it isn't happening now. You seem to have so much faith in the same politicians that got us here. Thinking they'd do the right thing.
Ordinary electronic voting was thrown out of the national assembly.

That's the same set of people you expect will put a working system in place? That's ridiculous.

Do the above, and we may eventually get into a position where we can discuss secession, separation peacefully. Like the Czechs and Slovaks did....

If you're waiting for the above to happen you'll grow white whiskers waiting.

Even if you split Nigeria...all the new countries would face EXACTLY the same issues i have outlined above. And all of them will commence battles for control of the oil. There will be war and fighting. And the rulers would be the same old corrupt political elite.

How do you know the above? The answer is, you DON'T. You are only projecting your fears.

You'd rather continue in a dysfunctional union than to strike out for a new beginning simply because you're afraid of change.

Successful people take risks. Successful people try new things. Successful people are not afraid to change old things that don't work for them.

That's what successful people do.

You claim there'll be war. Tell me, is Nigeria not at war already?

Close to 1,000 school kids have been kidnapped from their school this year alone.

The Fulanis are on a rampage, killing, maiming and raping and you think all's well and the solution is to not vote in APC in the next elections? Lol

I stopped reading where you said that 'in dubai they don't pay taxes'.

Here is the thing, Dubai is part of the UAE.

1.The UAE has a population of 15 million people, and lives on 3 million barrels of crude per day.

2.Nigeria has a population of 200 million people and lives on 1.4 million barrels of crude per day.

That's why Dubai can get away without paying taxes. They have the cash to do so.

I still stand by my points, especially the point about taxes. If you remember as far as I do, strikes have always been a part of the Nigerian landscape since the 1980's. And they will continue to be unless government and the people learn to make more money.

I also stand by my taxation point. Most African countries are in debt because we think we can earn enough money from selling raw materials. The problem is, the raw materials are at a price that we cannot control. So we get forever broke...and take loans.

If we cannot learn these lessons now, we won;t learn them as separate countries...and there would be a big fight for control of resources. Which is why I DON'T back secession, not because I don't see its merits, but because I know that the new countries would not be in a position to survive without having raw materials to sell...and oil is the most lucrative. (Also, where do we draw the line. ? And no one has answered the minorities questions well)

The reason why you are making fun of me is because you don't like the idea of more taxes, removed subsides, and the hardwork of hilding leaders accountable. And yes, they are no fun, and yes, they don't do much on the justice level. But one thing I know...this fulani crisis won't have happened with a well funded police, a well funded legal system and a well funded rail and road system...and that can only happen with improved taxation , removal of subsidies, and making our rail, power, and petrol sector profitable.

But from your comment on Dubai, you want a society where you get everyhting free...and the thing is, there is no free thing in Freetown. East Germany and the DPRK tried that idea. By the 1990's...East Germany had collapsed and been taken over by the West, and the DPRK went through a brutal famine...and needed aid to get back on its feet.

Nigeria needs to become a less resource dependent country, and also needs to expand its tax base. Take it or leave it.

5 trillion naira is just 12 billion dollars.(For comparison, South Africa's education budget for 2019 was 23 billion dollars.

Also, 5 trillion is the amount of money we spent subsidizing fuel from 2010-15.

The thing is, Nigeria needs far more than 5 trillion naira. We need at least 70 trillion naira...before we can be 'comfortable'...if not more.

There is a reason Fowler was sacked....he did not do for Nigeria, what he did for Lagos. Expand the tax base.

Like you I believe Buhari is bad. Unlike most of you...I believe he is bad because he hasn't found ways to increase the amount of money that we make, and he hasn't found ways to fight corruption..which drains the limited amount of money we have.

By the way, if that 5 trillion was our police budget every year...we may just have enough money to police only Lagos at a first world level.
