Scan it.

Black smoke is usually excess fuel burning.

The Oil burning is probably a leak or worn out piston rings

Body sensor, oil (car) due for servicing, fuse need to change in fuse box, and finally engineer wear already. Take it to competent and reliable rewire first.

It's seems the Car is dropping more than enough fuel in the car combustion chamber. while possible issues might be
1. A Dirty or Bad MAF Sensor ( Mass Air Flow Sensor) mostly common issues with Toyota
2. A Dirty oil or due for servicing
3. Not commonly Fuel Pressure Sensor.

When car engine or any engine burns oil and smoke black it only one reason

THE PISTON Needs NEW RINGING

Nothing else
Originakalokalo:

My car smokes black only when accelerating but stops afterwards.

It burns oil too. However, everything else is fine. It fires well.

Any remedy? Can anything be done?

Or should I just change the engine?

Bros go and rig your engine. That's all or better still you buy a new engine if your pocket allows it

Observe while warming up your car in the morning whether it still smokes.

Do not raise the fire by stepping on the accelerator.

If it smokes while steaming on idle, you may have to see an expert.

My two kobo contribution.

Improper mixture of fuel and air

2. It burns oil too means oil leakage from the seals or bad piston and rings.

Solution: Replace the engine and bad O2 sensors

Do you experience higher fuel consumption? If yes, it's probably your MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor/Meter). But a complete scan would help pinpoint better. If can lay your hands on a spare to swap with, and then test out. Engine issue would give you a blue smoke and not black.

Oil doesn't causes black smoke bro. That's what road side mechanics thinks and tell their clients but it's not true.

Black smoke is caused when the fuel and air mixture is not in the order of 2:1. The air being 2 and 1 being fuel. If the air is not enough, the fuel will not be used up completely. That's called incomplete combustion.

If only your mechanic would use the OEM rings and savvy, it'll run like a new engine.

Bad head gasket. When you have oil leaks, it’s either the gasket is bad or the drain plug is loose. I’m almost 100% sure it is the gasket.
what about if it's over heating and there is oil leak in the exhaust as well as black smoke.

Don't change the engine. Get a good mechanic to scan that car. I nearly sold my car cos of similar issues untill I met a mechanic that scanned it and solution was found . In my case , scan dictated faulty oxygen sensor or 02 sensor , catalyst issue , temperature sensor and cylinder misfiring . Scan found out it was cylinder 4 and 6 misfiring . When all this things were replaced ...they car came alive ...till date everything works perfectly ...I hope this helps .
