My own question is... Why will you take VAT from Lagos and share with Sokoto?

Mbok, let every VAT be spent in the state it is generated.

Typical northern way of thinking.

Mark my words. VAT under FIRS is 1000 far better than VAT under states. These states behave like terror to businesses and companies. Ordinary building Approvals, and market taxes, they suffer land owners, SMEs and Market sellers. Is it VAT that they can handle?

Let States takeover their domain. " to whom much is given, much is needed from him" let this stand so we'll face our governors for total transformation

You can't loose what wasn't yours to collect in the first place.

Infact they should return all they have collected in the past.

Xscape1993:
This would be a welcome development. When this finally happens, states will be financially independent and this will also lead to rapid development.

The electorate from the concerned states will now focus more on their governors than the Presidency and make demands for the delivery of the dividend of democracy.

The lazy and sleeping states that are parasitics and leeches will now have to look inward for INTERNALLY GENERATED REVENUE ( IGR )

Those who allow their kinsmen to roam the forest in the south in the name of cattle herdsmen will have to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX and invite this herdsmen back home to develop their own state instead of pushing them down south to cause mayhem.

This was bound to happen.
You can't be collecting tax and not showing us how it is spent, go to One, refinery road see how deplorable the road is.
Federal roads in some parts of the country especially states that produce the high revenue are terrible.
Lagos ports full of portholes.
They v should allow states collect vat and remit a portion to the centre.

Can't be smashing bottles of beer and be chopping the VAT on those beer bottles.

Its time to be viable as a state, governors sit up!

The VAT issue is not a sky view as most of us think it to be.
Most states does not even have the capacity to generate the amount they're presently receiving from the FG arrangement.
If consuming tax VAT is left to the state to control, the assumed collectible figures is not feasible. What it means is that all multinationals in Lagos, Rivers etc eg Coca cola that have branches in other states of the federation has to pay VAT in those States of operation.
What is obtainable currently is that coca cola pays their VAT centrally from their HQ and is calculated for Lagos state as state hosting the HQ.
More importantly it may lead to situation of multiple taxation if not properly managed.

You are right but why should you take what belong to Kano and give it to Yobe state?

The FIRS used to be the second-biggest parastatal in Nigeria after the petroleum industry's MDAs (NNPC, DPR, PEF, etc). With this tsunami about to hit the parastatal, the FIRS workers had better start looking for a job now. embarassed
