ENTRY AGE LIMIT: LAGOS DEBUNKS VIRAL REPORT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has debunked a social media report alleging that the State Government will, from next academic session, enforce the entry age of 12 years for pupils seeking admission into Junior Secondary School (JSS1) in a bid to deter underage registration.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, noted that the unsigned and undated document about the age limit for Junior Secondary School entrants had earlier been denounced in Y2020 when it was first circulated.

The Commissioner maintained that such statement was never issued by the State Government, stressing that what was wrongly published and circulated was not a policy statement, but an internal memorandum containing suggestions and a summary of discussions that was drafted after a consultative meeting.

She explained that the said meeting was held with relevant stakeholders in the Education Sector in Y2020 on how to implement the National Policy on Education in the State, which was clearly stated in a press release issued by the Ministry in April, 2020.

Describing the perpetrators of the social media report as saboteurs, Mrs. Adefisayo urged the general public to ignore the viral statement and rest assured that the Ministry will always involve stakeholders in policy decisions and implementation.

Pressure would have been mounted by the private sector.

Ajebo children no dey take time to enter secondary school, come graduate by 18yrs when public sector children still dey Secondary school.

Good to debunk. It's senseless.

If the child does well academically why hold him or her back due to age.

We have PhD holders in developed world who are in their 20s and proffesors in their 30s.

Here a 30yr old tries for a proffesorship they would frustrate him and ask him how old he is.

Wonder why we are where we are. Pettiness.

12 years entry age is a good policy, your unemployment rate is too high, slow down the process a notch.

Better because that idea is useless to me.
So the child will graduate leave secondary school at 18, gain admission let assume at 19. Go for a 4 or 5 yrs course and finally graduate at 23, 24 without ASUU strike o which is rare impossible. NYSC 1 year then done at 24, 25 yrs
At that age anytime he apply for job he will be told it's for 22yrs with 3 years working experience. Directly he or she is already at a disadvantage.
Their own children come from UK, US and the likes at the age of 19 a graduate, filled up the limited space and and the end of the day the poor have nothing to fall on

Whereas, a medical doctor earns average of 300 dollars monthly, same with bankers and other lucrative professions.. This country don cast jare..

Seeing 14/15 year olds in S.S.3 makes me wonder where they are rushing to when an overwhelming majority of Americans finish secondary school at 18!

If you had understood the way the tenses were used in the quote above, you would have refrained yourself....

Whether you like it or not

You should be at least 17/18 before graduation from high school

All those 15 years old boy and girls in university ehn

My class for here tire me

Mental health zero
Leadership skills nothing

Well sha....e go be

One thing plp will find hard to believe is that

It is not how fast...a kid that graduated 15 that cant help the country to move forwards
Im america the average of high school graduates is 18

Na so so suicide for every school...weak children with little level of ruggedity

12 years is actually the right age for JS1. Public schools in Lagos State are enforcing it. Private schools are doing otherwise. Imagine primary 6 has gone into extinction in private schools. First School Leaving Certificate is virtually useless.

And they say retirement age is 50yrs! And they say you must have a degree to be employed. And you will need to use half of your life years to go to school even if you start at birth (2+6+6+5=19yrs).

And now they want to add a compulsory 12yrs delay.

And they will complain when BOKO becomes HARAM?
