Constructing rail lines to Kano, Katsina and Dutse is understandable; but why extend it to Niger Republic? Why should we borrow from the IMF, World Bank and China to build a rail line to Niger Republic?

“Is there something this government is not telling us? How could the Federal Government come up with such an idea in a country where potable water has become a luxury; right to electricity is regarded as a taboo for an average citizen, roads have become death traps and our health facilities lack malaria drugs?

“That sum, $1.96 billion when exchanged at the rate of N380 per dollar, is almost N800 billion. This can do a lot in the economy.

“The outbreak of the pandemic has exposed Nigeria to the world: our Federal Government was begging for ventilators and nose masks.

“Our education sector is in a shambles. Agreements reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over a decade ago are yet to be met.

“We are celebrating six decades of independence yet Ghana, South Africa, etc. are threatening and treating Nigerians in their country with disdain. It hurts. It really does!

“According to a report from the Debt Management Office, Nigeria’s total debt rose to $79.5 billion (N28.63 trillion as of the first quarter of 2020). Debt servicing gulps trillions of naira yearly.

“News had it that Nigeria’s sovereignty is at stake if the country fails to pay China! How could the Federal Executive Council, FEC, accept such now? Or, has the Niger Republic annexed Nigeria?

“Government has not completed the road that connects Nigeria with other Western African countries yet the President Buhari-led administration approves construction of a rail line to Niger!

“What is Nigeria paying for? Or, could this be another way of looting our commonwealth in preparation for the 2023 electioneering campaign? The whole thing is becoming more confusing.

“Your Excellencies, there are many roads seeking attention throughout the country. The Lagos-Ibadan expressway services every vehicle coming into Lagos, including the ones from Kano, Katsina and Dutse; why has it not been completed?

“The Niger Delta that lays the golden egg does not have good roads and potable water. They neither fish in their water nor go to the farm because of oil spillage.

“Yes, it is true that the NDDC was supposed to provide most of the basics; unfortunately, the reverse is the case because of corruption.

“Those appointed to manage the Commission ended up looting it dry. None is in jail because in the very first place it was a political settlement.

“Since someone fainted during the National Assembly probe of the Commission, we have not heard anything again on the matter.

“It is shameful it happened at a time our ‘incorruptible’ president holds sway. All we are saying is that Charity begins at home! This is not the time for profligacy and licentious spending; the government must manage our lean purse prudently.

“We must set our priorities right because Nigeria is becoming a laughing stock to the whole world. Tinkering with such ideas at a time the electricity tariff has been increased and fuel price hiked is indeed suicidal.

“Nigeria should stop playing big brother at the expense of Nigerians. This government is not being fair to Nigerians. Simple.”

SERAP shud relax. No nation can grow without infrastructure. If Nigeria no build this infrastructure now how can we reduce unemployment, bring investors, grow economy. It's up to us to choose between higher insecurity challenges and higher debt. What the National assembly should look at for is loopholes in the proposal, and ensure the projects are not overfunded.
The level of insecurity we are facing is as a result of zero infrastructure built in 16yrs of misrule. Since we can access this loans let's get it, ability to access loan in the first place means Nigeria is reputable.

Niger had discovered oil bro. Nigeria need to benefit from that, extending this project to Niger means Niger wud use Nigeria for their export tru katsina,Kano and even to Lagos. We all should pray for our country, pray this project,PH to Maiduguri and Lagos to Calabar is completed. Then Nigeria wud become an industralized nation.

Another thing you'll observe is that this thread won't go past 3 pages. But if it's Idibia and Annie fighting on social media, the thread will go past 13 pages.[/b]

And you say Nigerians have sense?? Naaaah. Dumb fools!

Their lives have already been taken away from them. Now the destinies of their future children are being taken away from them right in front of their eyes, but they still can't see.

When you tell them, we have to go our separate ways now. Oduduwa, Biafra must come.

They will tell you :

"Naaah. My name is Seun and my best friend is Izuchukwu while my girlfriend for steady lash is Aisha. I think Nigeria should remain one."

Will you shut up?!.. I wonder where foolhardy people like you come from. It's no secret that the previous borrowings of the Buhari led regime and recoveries of the EFCC have never been put to good use. There has been no clear explanation of how these monies have been spent. And this man keeps borrowing and borrowing.
And you are well aware that the Nigerian debt crises reached an all time high during this regime and there is no hope of it ever receeding in the future.
Of what use is a railroad project connecting Nigeria to Niger?.. When there is still so much to be done in the country.
Why doesn't he just achieve one goal as a president; maybe the problem of power, so that one good thing can be said about him?
Don't provoke me this sunday morning, I beg you.

They will tell us now Niger republic have discovered crude oil ooo lol -We aint got no business borrowing money to help Niger when we are dying back home in Nigeria -Niger holds 150,000,000 barrels of proven oil reserves as of 2016, ranking 60th in the world and accounting for about 0.0% of the world's total oil reserves of 1,650,585,140,000 barrels.

Niger has proven reserves equivalent to 34.2 times its annual consumption. This means that, without Net Exports, there would be about 34 years of oil left (at current consumption levels and excluding unproven reserves).

Which Lawan and Gbajabiamila are they asking to stop the lifeless from taking more loans? The earlier Nigerians realize that we don't have national assembly at least to what it was meant to be the better. Nigeria has gone to the dogs and it will take years before it will return to the level it was before 2015
Ignorance is one of Nigerians greatest challenge. This loan is already part of the 2021 appropriation act passed into law and form part of the medium term expenditure framework. One of the sources of financing our annual budget is through borrowing.
